Destiny 2's Season of Opulence made a significant change to how players earn Iron Banner armor, moving to a new quest instead of the old method of getting armor randomly in reward packages or buying the vendor version from Lord Saladin. As it turns out, the new Iron Banner quest is one of the biggest grinds that the game has seen in a while, and getting a full armor set requires players to spend a lot of time in Iron Banner.

However, players have discovered a way to cheese the final step of the quest, which can be one of the most laborious parts. In the final step, players must fill a completion bar to 100% by finishing Iron Banner matches. Going on win streaks will speed up progress but Iron Banner is often no walk in the park and, especially with level advantages turned on and regularly matchmaking with stacked teams, this step can be a slog - not to mention running into players using the overpowered Lord of Wolves exotic. Without any win streaks, this step of the quest can take 50 games or more to complete.

But there is a way to cheese this step and easily complete the Destiny 2 Iron Banner armor quest. To get this to work, players must get at least a two-game win streak. Once they win two games in a row, players should back out of Iron Banner. There is a bug that will grant progress on the quest step without playing any more matches, and there are a few ways to activate the bug.

The first way is to queue back into Iron Banner so that the game begins to matchmake (wait until 1/12 appears on the screen) and then back out. That will automatically apply progress. The danger of this method is accidentally getting queued into a lobby before having a chance to back out. Backing out once all 12 players have been found or losing that match will negate the original win streak, meaning players will have to start over and earn a new win streak.

The second method is to fly into the Tower and then once the 3-second countdown timer ends and the game starts loading into the Tower, back out to the character select screen. Select the same character and log back in. Upon logging back into orbit, the quest should have made progress. Some players are also reporting that just loading into different destinations adds progress without having to log out to the character select screen, so that is worth a try as well.

To start the quest, pick it up from Lord Saladin in the Tower. Players have until the weekly reset on June 25th and 10 a.m. PDT to complete the Iron Banner quest.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
