There was a time in the not-so-distant history of Destiny 2 where fans were outraged about Eververse, the game's microtransaction store. So much so that the official Destiny forums on Bungie.net were overrun by spam posts calling for the complete shutdown of Eververse. As the months passed, more updates went live, and now with another DLC launched, it appeared that developer Bungie heard the criticism about players feeling like too much content was locked behind the Eververse store.

That's why the debut of a new Iron Banner emote this week left Destiny 2 players scratching their heads. The emote, called "Salute of the Lords," is only available through a special Iron Banner Emote Bundle at Eververse that can be purchased for 1100 Silver (which comes out to $10 US). Fans thought surely the emote must also be available in rank up packages from Lord Saladin, right? Wrong. Bungie's community manager Cozmo took to Reddit to say that the emote does not drop anywhere else.

With the launch of the Warmind expansion, fans were feeling like Bungie was making a serious course correction. The new Prismatic Matrix feature in the Eververse makes getting desired items easier, the new raid lair can drop a special raid-themed emote, and more. That's why the move to put an event-specific emote behind a paywall feels so out of place to many players.

On one hand, it is a positive step that the emote is a direct purchase without implementing any kind of RNG, but the fact that it is not possible to earn in the actual event that it belongs to is causing controversy among some Destiny 2 fans. It doesn't seem that Bungie has any plans to change the availability of the emote, at least not during this week of Iron Banner. Bungie has made changes based on fan feedback before, so there's always hope that it will be moved into the Iron Banner loot pool in the future.

Destiny 2: Warmind is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
