Glitches in gaming can cause a variety of things, ranging from fun and harmless to game-breaking or useful. One recently discovered Destiny 2 glitch definitely falls into that last category.

Destiny 2 players found an exploit that lets them farm a theoretically infinite number of Legendary Shards by buying and salvaging items from an in-game outfitter. YouTuber Cheese Forever walked viewers through it in a video published Tuesday. A Reddit user later posted it on the RaidSecrets subreddit.

The exploit itself is relatively straightforward. Destiny 2 players first need to acquire any Majestic Armor set. Then, store one piece of it in the Vault. Having technically removed the item from their inventory, players can “recover” it from Eva Levante in The Tower. The service costs only 5,500 Glimmer. Players can then dismantle the item for 3 to 4 Legendary Shards depending on if they own the Destiny 2 Season Pass. Finally, the player can trade the Shards for Materials, which they can sell to Spider for more Glimmer.

Reddit user pastuleo23 broke down the math. Players can exchange four Shards for 20 materials, and can then sell those 20 Materials for 10,000 Glimmer. Note that Spider only buys certain materials on certain days, so the player will have to plan accordingly. 10,000 Glimmer is enough to buy four armor pieces from Eva, which the player can scrap for a total of 16 Shards. That’s a profit of 12 Legendary Shards every time the player does it. This makes it a reasonably powerful Destiny 2 exploit.

Some players may recognize this as the same glitch players encountered with the Guardian Games event back in May. Presumably, none of the developers noticed its reintroduction by Destiny 2’s ongoing Solstice of Heroes event. So far, Bungie has yet to patch this version of the recurring glitch.

Bugs and exploits become more common the larger a game gets, and MMO players seem especially adept at seeking them out. Last month, Destiny 2 players stumbled across a bug that revived the original version of the Lunafaction Boots perk. Initially, the Boots reloaded players' weapons automatically when standing in an active Warlock Rift. Bungie removed the perk for balance purposes. However, the original bonus can activate seemingly at random for players in the Vault of Glass location on Venus. The bug was still active as of late June.

As for the Legendary Shard glitch, Destiny 2 saw its most recent update on July 6th. So, assuming the exploit doesn’t jump to the top of Bungie’s priority list, it may stay in place for at least a bit longer.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
