Bungie has offered Destiny players space to store their extra goods since the first game, and the Destiny 2 vault is about to increase in size. This vault space improvement will allow Destiny 2 players to store weapons, armor pieces, materials, items, and more in the additional slots provided with an upcoming update.

The current Destiny 2 Vault is only capable of holding 500 items, but according to Bungie, this has been increased by 100 to include 600 total slots for players to store items in. Because each player has seen a Vault size increase of 100, and with over 38 million players, Bungie has created millions of new empty Vault spaces in the update. This Vault improvement will go into effect with Update 4.1.0, the first update brought to Destiny 2 since The Witch Queen expansion was released earlier this year.

Bungie will bring Update 4.1.0 to Destiny 2 on May 24, but the time will depend on which region a player resides in. According to Bungie's maintenance schedule, Destiny 2 will be taken offline at 9:45 AM PDT, and it's expected to return by 10:00 AM and should be playable by 11:00 AM. Because these schedules are subject to change depending on each update, it may require more time, which will push the update download further back for players, but Destiny 2 should be back up for players by the afternoon of May 24.

Destiny 2 players have been clamoring for more space in their Vaults since Forsaken and Shadowkeep, but Bungie has stated that it's investigating "future solutions." It's currently unclear what these solutions may be, but developers may be looking at other ideas for storing things as they apparently had to "pull some strings" to get the 100 extra slots. Bungie has acknowledged that it knows the added Vault space still won't enable players to keep all the things that they want to, but players will be able to keep a larger chunk of the items they don't wish to part with.

Other live service games that have come out over the years, such as No Man's Sky, GTA Online, and The Division 2, offer banks similar to the Destiny 2 Vault, but some haven't kept up with the demand for space. Although Activision Blizzard has expanded on the Guild Bank in World of Warcraft since its implementation, the standard bank for each player has remained mostly untouched since the game was released in 2004. With Bungie adding to the Vault in the new update, it's clear that the developer is aware of the demand from Destiny 2 players, unlike with games that don't expand their Vaults.

Destiny 2 is available now for Google Stadia, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
