With the launch of Destiny 2: Season of Opulence, developer Bungie has introduced a new item called the Chalice of Opulence that players can use to farm specific loot. However, in order to get the Chalice to a place where players can “curate” they receive at the end of the Menagerie activity, they will need to upgrade it using Imperials.

As of yet, Imperials are somewhat hard to come by, but there are a few proven methods for gaining Imperials in Destiny 2 and one way to farm Imperials that Bungie will likely patch out at some point.

Nessus Barge Chests

On board the new Barge in Nessus, there are a dozen or so chests that can be opened for 5,000 Glimmer and will reward 150 Imperials. For such a steep cost, players will run out of Glimmer fast by opening all of the chests, so we recommend waiting until Spider (the Tangled Shore vendor) is selling Glimmer in exchange for Legendary Shards and then going nuts.

Weekly Calus Bounties

Werner 99-40 and Benedict 99-40 will have four weekly Calus bounties available that offer a powerful reward, a rune for the Chalice of Opulence, and a puny purse of Imperials (150). Complete these every week (and on each character you have) for an additional 150 Imperials.

Season of Opulence Triumphs

In the Menagerie section of the Triumph list are three pages worth of Triumphs geared towards the new Destiny 2 activity. When completed, each of these Triumphs will reward players with 500 Imperials, so they are well worth pursuing. Most of them only require basic task completion, but a few want players to do very specific actions. For example, there are Triumphs for completing each of the objectives in Menagerie with time left.

Chalice Upgrade for Activities

While the above methods have a shelf life, there is one method for gaining Imperials that players can farm forever. The first step is to unlock the Power and Efficiency 2 node on the Chalice of Opulence. This allows players to purchase a consumable that increases the odds of gaining Imperials from Strike, Gambit, Crucible, and Menagerie completions, similar to the Rune Finder. We highly recommend buying this node as soon as possible because it will make acquiring all the other nodes a little faster.

With the consumable active, Destiny 2 players can complete any of the mentioned activities for a chance of 500 Imperials. It’s rare, but with the Mayhem active in Crucible this week it might be worth farming that activity.

There is also an Imperial farming method that exists but it will likely be patched out. In the Menagerie, players are given 300 seconds to explore once they complete the activity. During this time, players can also go outside of the “reward” area of the Menagerie, load a new zone, slot new runes in their Chalice of Opulence, and then come back and re-open the chest. It’s a way to farm specific Season 7 gear, but it also adds more chances at those 500 Imperials if the consumable is active. It’s not an official method but one that works for now.

Eventually, Destiny 2 players will likely be swimming in Imperials but for right now they are extremely valuable. Upgrading the Chalice allows for customizing gear drops in the Menagerie and increasing powerful rewards for fast leveling to power level 750. So as long as players know where to focus they can get those upgrades sooner rather than later.

Destiny 2: Season of Opulence is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
