Whenever a new big release for Destiny 2 hits the game, it's possible that it comes with a sandbox patch that features changes to many core gameplay elements to shake the meta and bring the looter shooter more in line with Bungie's vision for it. A sandbox patch was released at the beginning of Season of the Lost, and it addressed changes coming to several items, with a focus on fusion rifles as a whole and nerfs for the Exotic grenade launcher Anarchy. A much bigger update is coming to Destiny 2 alongside the 30th Anniversary Pack, though, and it includes major changes to many weapon archetypes, Exotics, and abilities.

In a very detailed This Week At Bungie post, Bungie announced what the goal is when it comes to abilities and Supers in Destiny 2, and what will be done with them when the patch drops. As one would expect, accompanying the substantial changes to the foundations of Destiny 2's grenades, melee attacks, and Supers, there are also a plethora of buffs and nerfs to take into account.

A big spoiler on what to expect with the 30th Anniversary Pack came from Bungie, and it was about how Stasis Hunters' Shatterdive and Stasis crystals would be nerfed to account for their dominance in PvP. While many Destiny 2 players rejoiced when reading about Shatterdive-related nerfs in the post, others were very unhappy about Bungie adding another one-hit-kill ability to Hunters in the form of Flux Grenades. The change is especially infuriating to some players because, at the same time, Titans will be deprived of their ability to one-shot players with their Shoulder Charge abilities and Warlocks will no longer kill on hit with Handheld Supernova.

Another sentiment of negativity stems from the fact that Destiny 2 Supers will now be divided into different Tiers based on how fast they can be regenerated, and Stasis Hunter's Silence and Squall is just below the only Tier 5 Super in the game. However, other players are unhappy about the state of Hunters in Destiny 2's PvE moving forward, as their Dodge abilities have been nerfed heavily with longer cooldowns, which can break the balance of an already not great class outside of PvP.

As such, there are no real winners in the 30th Anniversary Patch, and Destiny 2's differentiated cooldowns might lead to different forms of imbalance for Hunters. Shatterdive is pretty much done for in PvP, but there is a lot of work to do on Hunters to make them more harmonious between PvE and PvP, even though it's very hard to please everyone.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
