Earlier this week, the final piece of Destiny 2's annual pass known as the Season of Opulence arrived. Taking the lessons learned from Joker's Wild and Black Armory, Bungie has made sure to include content for all types of players. While there's always new gear and exotics to hunt down, the update this week also included the latest raid called the Crown of Sorrow, giving players a chance to dive in much earlier than usual.

For many though, the biggest piece to this season is the new PvE activity known as the Managerie. Giving players the opportunity to explore previously unseen sections of the Leviathan ship, the six person team has to defend against waves of enemies. However, unlike traditional horde modes, the Menagerie also adds in a variety of challenges to overcome while fighting off enemies.

At the end of the event, Destiny 2 players can use an item called the Chalice of Opulence to earn specific rewards. The chalice is given to players after finishing the first quest from Benedict 99-40. Players can upgrade the Chalice using an item called Imperials or imbue runes to customize your Menagerie rewards. Here's how to get specific gear and weapons using the Chalice of Opulence.

How To Earn Runes

Runes are the key to controlling the type of rewards players earn from the Menagerie activity. These items have a chance to drop from specific activities in the game and players can improve the rune drop chance through chalice upgrades.

Here are the best ways to earn runes currently:

  • Complete weekly bounties from Werner.
  • Open the weekly chest on the Nessus Barge.
  • Use the Runefinder consumable to increase the chances of rune drops from activities like the Crucible, Gambit, or Strikes.

Imperials

Imperials are the new currency players use to upgrade the chalice. Doing so adds new perks to the chalice, many of which provide more opportunities to earn runes as drops, from bounties, and more. While not as important as runes are for finding specific gear, players will need to ensure that the following three upgrades are enabled:

  • Rune Compatibility I (1000 imperials) - Gives the player the ability to obtain and slot red runes. These are used to guarantee the drop of class-specific arm and leg armor, as well as Power weapons.
  • Rune Compatibility II (3000 imperials) - Gives the player the ability to obtain and slot green runes. These are used to guarantee the drop of class-specific head armor, Hand Cannons, and Sidearms.
  • Rune Compatibility III (8000 imperials) - Gives the player the ability to obtain and slot blue runes. These are used to guarantee the drop of class-specific chest armor, Fusion Rifles, and Shotguns.

Rune Rewards

The chalice itself can hold up to three runes at a time. Depending on which rune is used and in which slot it is placed, players have some control over what items or gear drop at the end of The Managerie. Remember, up to three runes can be enabled at one time as long as the player has upgraded the chalice.

Here's a list of available runes as well as the type of rewards granted depending on the slot they're placed in.
