Destiny 2 is a constantly evolving game. With new seasons introducing new weapons, and new raids introducing new mechanics, the sandbox that Destiny 2 maintains is always changing. That being said, the top DPS weapon always changes from season to season and this season Linear Fusions Rifles are the DPS kings.

On top of that, Stormchaser, the newest Linear Fusion Rifle added with Season of the Haunted has joined the ranks as one of the highest DPS weapons ever to exist within Destiny 2.

What is Stormchaser?

Best Linear Fusion Rifle DPS Weapon Destiny 2

Stormchaser is the newest Linear Fusion Rifle introduced with Season of the Haunted. The fabled weapon drops from the second and final encounter of the newest dungeon Duality which, unfortunately, can only be run with the Dungeon Pass. Stormchaser is a new archetype of Linear Fusion Rifle, that being of the Aggressive Frame archetype. What makes Stormchaser unique is that, unlike most Linear Fusion Rifles, Stormchaser fires in a 3 round burst, which, when put together, equates to some of the highest damage ever seen in Destiny 2.

How to obtain Stormchaser?

Stormchaser requires access to the Duality dungeon in order to farm. Duality is the most recent dungeon to be released in Destiny 2, and Duality's power requirement is quite high. The dungeon recommends 1,550 Power to start off with, but the second and final encounter ramps the power of enemies up by 10 per encounter. This means that in order to be able to obtain Stormchaser, having a character of 1,560+ power is recommended.

A quick guide for the Vault

Before farming the Vault for Stormchaser it's important to understand the mechanics of Duality, as well as the encounter that players will be running. A simple rundown of the encounter is as follows:

  1. Players will enter the arena and be shown two symbols, these being (Axes, Sun, War Beast/ Dogs, Cup/ Chalice). These symbols will need to be memorized to progress the encounter.
  2. Once the Bellkeepers have been killed, players should ring the bell and head into the nightmare realm.
  3. The symbols shown in the first arena will indicate which sides of the arena players will need to head to. There's typically some sort of signage on each side (a Sun banner or axes on the columns).
  4. Players should grab the standard by killing the Standard bearer for each side and then head back into the original arena.
  5. From there, dumping both the Standards into the respective symbols will make the boss vulnerable and from there DPS phase begins.
  6. This process repeats two more times afterward and once the final boss is dead, the encounter is complete.

How to farm the Vault for Stormchaser?

From there, the next best thing to do is grab two friends who also have access to the dungeon. This isn't mandatory but will make farming much more efficient and far less time-consuming. It's worth looking into the Destiny 2 LFG Discord server, which often has players making call-outs for farming dungeons and raids.

Upon reaching the second encounter, the Vault, saving a checkpoint is definitely the way to go when farming for Stormchaser. A fireteam of at least 2 minimum is required for saving checkpoints. In order to save a checkpoint:

  1. One player will need to log into another character and save the checkpoint there.
  2. Once the player has logged into the other character, they should run the encounter once and wipe (i.e jump off the map). This will save the encounter on the second character so that it can be loaded in again.
  3. At this point, players should swap back to the original character and complete the encounter.
  4. Once the encounter is completed, they can again swap to the other character that has the checkpoint and leave the fireteam, leaving the other player still at the Vault.
  5. It's then just a case of repeating steps 3 and 4 until the desired roll drops.

Example screenshots can be found below.

It's worth noting that the final encounter, Caiatl, can be faster to complete depending on the player's ability to deal DPS. Caiatl's DPS phase is much shorter, but easier to reach and a coordinated fireteam can one/ two-phase her. However, Caiatl's loot pool is a bit more diluted than Vault so the chances of getting Stormchaser to drop are lower.

What is the God Roll for Stormchaser?

One of the best aspects of Stormchaser is the perks it can roll with. Stormchaser has many different rolls that can all be considered very good depending on the situation. This minimizes the number of runs needed before finding a roll that players will be satisfied with. Some recommendations for Stormchaser god rolls are as follows:

  • Clown Cartridge + Firing Line: This is one of the go-to rolls and is the most popular on light.gg. Clown Cartridge allows for the gun to be overloaded more than the regular amount, and Firing Line buffs the damage as long as players stand with at least two or more allies. This roll optimizes for DPS, especially in scenarios where players take on large health pool targets such as raid/dungeon bosses.
  • Rapid Hit + Vorpal Weapon: This is one of the alternative rolls which is slightly less popular than the first roll but is far more consistent for solo use and is more applicable in more situations. Rapid Hit is a workhorse perk that increases stability and reload speed when landing precision shots and so is perfect for Stormchaser as a Linear Fusion Rifle. Vorpal Weapon is another fantastic perk that offers damage in more situations when players are solo and fighting any sort of boss enemy.

It's definitely worthwhile having both if possible, as different rolls can be used for different scenarios. However, it's important to note that they aren't mandatory, as, in most situations, Stormchaser with any good roll is good enough.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
