The Thunderlord is one of the most powerful weapons in Destiny 2, but after its initial return to the game during the Festival of the Lost in October 2018, the quest was removed from the game and with it went a guaranteed path to getting the must-have exotic. But for a limited time in the current Season of the Drifter, the quest will be returning, giving players who do not yet have the Thunderlord another chance at completing the weapon's signature quest.

The return of the Thunderlord quest in Season 6 will start on April 9, 2019 with the kick-off of Arc Week, which will also bring Arc Singe modifiers, buffed Arc subclasses, special emotes, and more. But while Arc Week will end upon the next weekly reset on April 16, the opportunity to activate and complete the Thunderlord quest will remain available until April 23.

After that, the Thunderlord will be available only through exotic engrams, which is currently the only place to find it for players without it already in their inventory. Obviously, RNG can go against Destiny 2 players so this is the chance for anyone who has been waiting for the weapon to drop randomly to instead have a guaranteed path to the weapon.

Based on the announcement of the quest's return, it appears that the quest will be exactly the same as it appeared during Festival of the Lost. So, as of April 9, players can visit Amanda Holliday in the Tower to pick up the Lost Cryptarch quest. Originally parts of the quest were time-gated by weekly resets, so players will have to wait for this new revisted version to see if this will be time-gated as well or if they can just move straight through it. Players will have to collect journal pages, complete Lost Sectors, and then eventually return to Destiny 1's Cosmodrome destination to reclaim a special engram that decrypts into the Thunderlord.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
