Destiny 2's Season of Plunder possibly has the best gameplay loop that Bungie introduced in Year 5. There are multiple activities to play and different ways to farm for gear. Season of Plunder's three activities do make the core experience more fun and diverse, but they also come at the cost of multiple seasonal currencies that players have to juggle.

For starters, it's important to clarify the purpose of each currency type. Repute is used to upgrade the seasonal vendor in Destiny 2's Season of Plunder, the Star Chart. Map Fragments and Treasure Coordinates are both used in Expedition, but they come from different sources. This guide explains how players can get Repute, Map Fragments, and Treasure Coordinates in Destiny 2.

How to Get Repute

Unlike past releases with their respective currencies, Season of Plunder makes Repute exclusively available through seasonal challenges, probably with only 2 Repute available per week until the end of the main storyline.

At that point, Destiny 2 players will likely be able to get more Repute per week until the Star Chart upgrades are completed. A likely scenario could be to have six-to-eight weeks of seasonal story updates with 2 Repute per week, and then increase that value afterwards. This is the only way to obtain Repute in the game, and it will most likely not change.

How to Get Map Fragments

Map Fragments are awarded on completion of the Ketchcrash activity. The only other means of getting this currency are bonuses from either the Season Pass for Season of Plunder, or from ranking up the Star Chart. Map Fragments also stack up to 50 units, which can be seen in the Captain's Atlas in the Quests tab.

Normal difficulty Ketchcrash awards 10 Map Fragments. Destiny 2 players can increase this number by unlocking upgrades in the paid Season Pass at level 12, 32, 52, and 92, respectively granting one, two, three, and five bonus Map Fragments per run.

How to Get Treasure Coordinates

The remaining currency is Treasure Coordinates, which stack up to 325 and can be spent alongside Map Fragments to slot treasure maps in the Captain's Atlas. Treasure Coordinates come from all activities, each of which awards different amounts. For example:

  • Playlist activities award 40 Treasure Coordinates,
  • Ketchcrash awards 5.
  • The Witch Queen story missions award 70.

However, Destiny 2 players can increase the amount of Treasure Coordinates they get at all times by using Season of Plunder's armor pieces. These grant 5% more currency gains each, up to a maximum of 20%.

Destiny 2 is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
