Bungie is celebrating 30 years of being part of the games industry, from the development team working on games like Myth to mega-franchises like Halo and now Destiny. And to celebrate the 30th anniversary, Bungie has dropped a special new event in Destiny 2. There's a free update for players, as well as a paid DLC pack. The latter, of course, comes with more content for Destiny players, but there's still some new gear and weapons for those that don't purchase the DLC. This guide will cover how to get the Forerunner Exotic Sidearm in Destiny 2.

The Forerunner is an exotic sidearm in Destiny 2 with extended-range, heavy-caliber rounds, and an increased fire rate. Also, it increases precision damage dealt to enemies without a shield. And Halo fans might be excited to try this one out, as this weapon is clearly inspired by the Halo Magnum.

How to Get Forerunner Exotic in Destiny 2

Starting the Forerunner Quest

Unlike the Gjallarhorn Exotic Rocket Launcher, the Forerunner is free for all Destiny 2 players, regardless of whether they purchased the anniversary pack DLC or not. To get the weapon, players will need to start the Forerunner quest. Travel to Eternity and head over to Xur's Treasure Hoard. Speak to Xur to get a new quest called "Magnum Opus"; the reward for this quest is the Forerunner. Players will need to collect 7 Strange Coins for part 1 of the quest and give them to Starhorse in Eternity.

Where to Find Strange Coins in Destiny 2

Destiny 2 players can earn Strange Coins as a reward for completing any of the following:

  • Dares of Eternity (New activity that can be found in Eternity)
  • Vanguard Strikes
  • Gambit Matches
  • Crucible Matches
  • Heroic Public Events
  • Completing Bounties

Steps 2-6 of Magnum Opus

  • 2 - Obtain and complete bounties from Starhorse in Eternity. Bonus progress granted for higher-difficulty Starhorse bounties.
  • 3 - Obtain the Strange Key from Xûr in Eternity after reaching Strange Favor Rank "Brave."
  • 4 - Return to Eternity now that you've risen to the impossible horse's challenges.
  • 5 - Unlock the way forward with the Strange Key and follow the path it opens to claim the mysterious object.
  • 6 - Bring the Anomalous Object to Banshee in the Tower to see if he can repair it.

As part of the anniversary event in Destiny 2, players can earn some other weapons inspired by Halo, such as the Half-Truths Legendary sword that's obviously inspired by the iconic Energy Sword. The new weapons in Destiny aren't exactly the ones available in Halo, but they are definitely meant to look similar. Considering that Halo Infinite's multiplayer is out now and the campaign launches this week, there's no better time to be a Halo or Destiny fan.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
