The final boss of Destiny 2’s Lightfall expansion is certainly no joke. After all, Calus has been testing the Guardians until this very moment, when he is imbued with the Witness’ Darkness and given the powers that he claims he so rightfully deserves. Calus, the Disciple, is the final boss of the Destiny 2 Lightfall campaign, and whether it’s on normal mode or Legendary, he can be quite the battle for little lights or veterans.

Luckily for Destiny 2 players, there’s a way to cheese Calus, and ensure that the Darkness does not consume the player. While their questions on what is the Veil remain difficult, the easiness that they will be able to defeat and cheese Calus, the Disciple has never been clearer.

Calus can be found staring up at the Veil, thus beginning the final boss fight of Destiny 2's Lightfall campaign. Although putting Calus into the cheese method is fairly easy, the same cannot be said for answering what exactly the Veil is in Destiny 2.

What Weapons To Use

Since players will be committed to Cheese Calus, they will need to ensure that they have the best weapons equipped to make short and easy work of him:

  • The Osteo Striga is an Exotic primary weapon unaffected by difficulty changes, a Kinetic SMG that not only has tracking capabilities with the fired rounds but will also poison nearby targets with consistent firing. It’s one of the best exotics in Destiny 2 and almost vital for this cheese due to the damage over time effect.
  • If players do not have the Osteo Striga, then Thorn is another great bet, as this Exotic handcannon commits itself to a similar ability, and deals damage over time, even if it’s at a smaller and slower rate.

  • The key ingredient to the Calus Cheese is a Kinetic weapon, so players have infinite ammo. This is because the player will be effectively stuck in position. It may take a while without damage over time effects.
  • A Linear Fusion Rifle or Heavy Machine Gun will be great for Calus’ second phase, so it’s best to keep the ammo reserved for the second part of the Calus Cheese.

What Not To Do Against Calus

Calus is a dangerous adversary, and if players want to commit to this cheese method to beat him, they shouldn’t waste time with some foolish attack methods that could get them killed.

  • Explosive weapons are a no-go. Players should keep Grenade Launchers and Rocket Launchers away, as, although they may be able to fire through the gaps in the stairs for the cheese, it’s a finicky hitbox and not worth the chance that the player can blow themselves up. Guardians should look to the powerful new exotics like the Deterministic Chaos.
  • Avoid Supers. Although the player might want to relish in the joy of their new Strand super, it’s not worth using for this cheese, as it could unbalance their position on the cheese, and it won’t even reach Calus. It’s best to just use a gun for this fight on Neomuna.
  • Ignore the Tormentors. Although these new enemies in Destiny 2 might be hard work and intimidating, damaging them will only waste time, as the cheese is effectively safe from them for both Phase 1 and especially Phase 2 of the boss fight.

How To Beat Calus, The Discple Easily

This popular cheese method for Calus begins in the Veil Containment. Once players Look Within to retrieve Strand and place their Rally Banner, they will want to go under the stairs where they spawn. The player will then crouch and they will be walking along a narrow pipe underneath the stairs. To start the fight with Calus, players will need to crouch walk further on the pipe and shoot to get Calus’ attention.

This area is safe from most damage, but be careful of splash damage from Tormenters and Psions. To counter any damage that might occur, players should crouch and move forward, further underneath the stairs, until their health has returned.

The best place to damage Calus in Phase 1 is to head towards the red triangle pillar and shoot Calus through the gaps in the stairs. It may take a while, but it’s almost impossible to die if players commit to the cheese and stay safe during the constant stream of fire.

How To Cheese Calus Phase 2

Once Calus’ health bar is completely emptied, he will start an animation to buff himself for his second phase. Although Calus has far less health in this phase, the fact that he sprints around with two battle axes, along the battlefield with two Tormentors and Psions, makes for a challenging fight, especially in such a small arena with no high ground.

As soon as Calus’ Phase 1 health is drained, players will want to immediately run to the left to the outer platform. To get here easier, players can grapple with their new Strand ability, but be aware that players will need their Strand Grapple for the next cheese.

As Calus gains his second-phase health, a purple bubble will engulf the battlefield. Players will want to make sure they are hugging the railing so that the game will say “Joining Allies.” From here, players will want to look up and grapple onto the bubble from the outside. If done right, they will be on top of the bubble, and they can damage Calus from above.

It's worth noting that Tormentors and Callus cannot damage the player from here, but Psions can. Players should take care of Psions as soon as they spawn to be extra safe, as they are in the open in Calus Phase 2.

The fight for Phase 2 remains the same; just shoot Calus repeatedly until he dies, and enjoy using any weapon for it. The lack of health in Phase 2 will mean the player can kill him rather easily and, thus, reach the Destiny 2 Lightfall ending.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
