A Bungie developer has revealed that a larger-than-usual set of weapon balance changes will arrive in Season 15 of Destiny 2, including a rework for Fusion Rifles. Other weapon types, such as Machine Guns and Scout Rifles, will also be receiving adjustments to make them stronger in PvE activities.

With so many weapon types and Subclasses in Destiny 2, a lot of them rise above or fall below the rest in both PvE and the Crucible, leading to players requesting buffs or nerfs. Bungie recently fast-tracked parts of a major PvP-oriented update for Stasis subclasses that was originally meant for Season 15 due to outcries from Crucible fans.

In its latest This Week At Bungie blog, Weapons Feature Lead Chris Proctor outlined a number of changes for various weapon types coming in Season 15. Most notably, a large rework of Fusion Rifles is being planned, including changes to perks and mods, and custom tuning for most Exotic Fusion Rifles. Proctor did not go into further detail on specific changes but did hint that the coveted Vex Mythoclast Exotic Fusion Rifle from the Vault of Glass Raid will be included in the tuning pass.

As for other weapon types, Proctor said PvE buffs for Scout Rifles, Hand Cannons, and Machine Guns are being prepared. Destiny 2 players have requested PvE buffs for Scout Rifles and Hand Cannons for a long time, and Proctor said that “minor enemies in high-end content take too many shots to kill with these weapons.” As well as these changes, Proctor said Destiny 2 players can expect new weapons and perks in Season 15, which should start after Season of the Splicer ends on August 24.

Exotic Primary weapons will also get some changes to make them more appealing for higher difficulty PvE content, although Proctor did not mention any specific weapons or adjustments. Fan-favourite Exotic Grenade Launcher Anarchy will also be reined in as it has “done too much too well for too many years,” according to Proctor. These near-future updates came as part of some notes for a patch that will be arriving on July 6 and includes some nerfs for Shotguns, 120RPM Hand Cannons, and a buff for Sleeper Simulant.

Destiny 2 has an incredibly diverse weapon sandbox but too often, certain weapon types stick out as the best and sometimes only option for a certain activity. While Fusion Rifles like Plug One.1 can excel because of their perks, most fall short of the close-range potency of Shotguns. It is great to see that many of these changes aim to make certain weapon types more appealing, and will affect both PvE and PvP, hopefully alleviating many of the issues in the latter side of Destiny 2.
