Destiny 2's developer made a very intentional decision with the release of the Warmind expansion to slow down the progression of Power in the game. Since the launch of the game, players have complained that reaching the top of the progression game is too quick. And while Warmind made strides to fix that, Bungie says it's not finished tinkering with how progression works.

In the developer's weekly blog, Bungie's Senior Investment Designer Daniel Auchenpaugh detailed changes coming up in Destiny 2's near future to better fine-tune progression; which are based on fan feedback since the release of Warmind.

Auchenpaugh admits that these are small changes, with bigger adjustments coming in the months ahead, but Bungie is looking at two key improvements for its next May 29 update. They both revolve around Heroic Strikes, which have been a point of contention with players. Heroic Strikes are a contentious topic because they have a recommended 350 Power level but cannot reward gear above the soft cap of 340. They are currently harder than the normal Nightfall, but are unable to give rewards that are high enough to affect a player's progression climb.

To help that, Bungie is adjusting the loot drop cap up to 360 (before mods) for heroic strikes. Those drops won't be guaranteed for every strike completion though, with Bungie saying to expect a higher-level drop every three to five strikes. The goal of this change is to award loot to better reflect the difficulty of that activity.

Secondly, Escalation Protocol Key Fragments will go from an occasional drop in Heroic Strikes to a guaranteed drop from each Heroic strike. According to Bungie, "The goal [...] is to make getting these fragments more accessible while also preserving the need to go play non-open-world content to get the fragments."

While those are the changes coming May 29, Bungie also opened up saying it's also looking into progression changes including leveling after 345 Power, providing more to do after completing the weekly Milestones, and matching the quality of rewards with the difficulty of the activity. Those will have to wait for now, even possibly until the planned major expansion in September.

Destiny 2: Warmind is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
