A certain Destiny 1 material is making a return in Destiny 2 with the release of the Shadowkeep expansion this fall. Those who played Destiny 1 can probably guess what material that is considering that the Moon is returning as the main destination in Shadowkeep. Helium Filaments, which served as the main material for the Moon in Destiny 1 will be back on the Moon in Shadowkeep.

It's another touch of nostalgia in Shadowkeep, which brings back many of the Moon's locations such as Archer's Line and the Temple of Crota as well as incorporating the Destiny 1 PvP map First Light into the explorable destination. Eris Morn is also making a return in Destiny 2, a character who became a vendor in the Tower and a major player in the story in Destiny 1 but has been curiously absent since the launch of the sequel.

Like all the other planetary materials in the game, Helium Filaments will serve as the main collectible material for the Moon again in Shadowkeep, dropping from various sources such as Patrols, high-value target chests, and more. In Destiny 1, eventually planetary materials could be purchased via the Vanguard Quartermaster vendor in the Tower, but before that, players in need of Helium Filaments for upgrading armor or advancing quests would have to farm it.

This led to players in Destiny 1 having to run routes across the Moon's public space opening chests or using glitches to respawn the same chest repeatedly. Many players had to do hours of farming while completing the Raze-Lighter exotic sword quest introduced in The Taken King expansion, which required players to collect Helium Filaments and the rare Soliton Flare item that dropped sporadically alongside Helium Filaments.

Love or hate having to farm for materials in Destiny 1, Helium Filaments are sure to bring back memories for those veteran players who remember running around the Moon collecting the material. The return of the material was confirmed by multiple content creators who posted official footage and previews of the first mission in Shadowkeep and the patrol zone on the Moon in Destiny 2.

Helium Filaments could come into play again in a major way with the addition of Armor 2.0 and what looks to be a costly grind for materials and items to upgrade the new armor to its fullest potential.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep releases October 1, 2019 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
