One fan of Destiny 2 came across an unusual bug in Bungie's free-to-play sci-fi shooter that is equal parts hilarious and horrifying, sharing a clip of a headless Lord Saladin online. Following significant server downtime earlier this week, Bungie released hotfix 7.0.0.6 for Destiny 2, which addressed several game-breaking bugs in the shooter that had been causing frustration for players. However, it seems like Saladin's disappearing head went unnoticed.

Launching on PC and consoles in 2017, Destiny 2 marked the second entry in the sci-fi shooter series started by original Halo developer Bungie. While Destiny 2 began life as a traditional paid title, the game moved to a free-to-play live-service model in 2019 with the launch of the New Light expansion. Like the first entry in the franchise, Destiny 2 has developed a dedicated fan base drawn in by the game’s satisfying gunplay, jaw-dropping environments, and ever-evolving storyline. The ability to customize armor and weapons plays a significant role in the game’s appeal for many players, which led to excitement from some fans when Destiny 2’s 2023 Guardian Games armor sets and weapons were leaked earlier this month.

In a new post on the r/destiny2 subreddit, Redditor dehamzaboi shared a video of an amusing and slightly disturbing glitch they came across in Bungie’s popular shooter. In the short video, Lord Saladin can be seen standing in the Tower adorned in his trademark wolf-adorned armor moving about normally, but with his head nowhere in sight. Coming across a headless Lord Saladin likely came as a bit of shock for dehamzaboi as they were attempting to complete the latest Iron Banner event in Destiny 2.

Redditors responding to the post, jokingly titled “Is this the Veil” in reference to the game’s powerful artifact of Darkness, were amused by the unusual glitch. One popular response joked that Saladin was simply showing off an example of the perfect PvP loadout, leading another Redditor to correctly quip that players “Can’t get headshot if you don’t have a head.” Another response joked that living with the Cabal, Destiny 2’s rhino-like race of warmongering giants, “seems to be really rough on Saladin.” Luckily for Destiny 2 fans, unlike some of the major bugs addressed with the recent hotfix, this unusual glitch was purely visual rather than game-breaking.

While serving as the host of the Iron Banner events may prove to be a bit difficult without a head, this video shows that the decapitated version of Lord Saladin seems as willing as ever to direct players to Destiny 2’s PvP Crucible combat. Hopefully for the squeamish, the next hotfix for the game will include placing Saladin’s head back atop his armored shoulders where it rightfully belongs.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
