Yesterday, Bungie held its first livestream detailing the Destiny 2 Curse of Osiris DLC. While the stream showcased some of the content fans can expect from the upcoming expansion (including the new social space) it also hinted at a major change for one Destiny 2 weapon class.

On Twitter, Bungie's senior gameplay designer Jon Weisnewski noted: "that Hand Cannon fire animation looks a little different." One Destiny 2 fan was quick to provide a clip from the Curse of Osiris livestream, highlighting some dramatic changes to the way that hand cannons fire.

As it currently stands, after Destiny 2's hand cannons are fired the gun will flick upwards but the new animation makes the hand cannon push back, instead of pointing upwards. It's unclear whether this new animation will be rolled out for all hand cannons in the game, but some preview footage for Curse of Osiris does feature the old animation.

While some Destiny 2 players say that the change could take a little bit of getting used to, most are welcoming the new hand cannon animation with open arms. The current hand cannon animation can be frustrating, say some, as it makes aiming quickly more difficult than with other Destiny 2 weapons. The way that the gun flicks up means that they have to reposition and re-aim with the weapon when trying to shoot quickly, though the new animation should make it easier to continuously fire at a specific target.

Though some are saying that the new hand cannon animation does not go far enough when it comes to fixing the weapon-type. Many Destiny 2 players would also like Bungie to fix hand cannon 'bloom' - a term used to describe the way bullets track towards a given target.

Some players argue that bloom makes hand cannons feel inaccurate, which makes an otherwise appealing weapon class harder to use. The clip of the new animation above seems to represent this issue well, as the Bungie developer is unable to hit the enemy despite firing multiple shots at mid-range.

It's unclear when (or if) Bungie will address the bloom problem or if the developer will make further tweaks to Destiny 2's hand cannons beyond this new animation. Tweaking the way that guns feel probably isn't as high on the list of priorities as making sure that the new Raid lair works properly, for example. But hopefully, Bungie will continue to look at the way that hand cannons work.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
