Bungie has disabled the new Gyrfalcon’s Hauberk exotic Hunter chest armor in Destiny 2. The recently-released armor piece was part of an exploit that could allow other classes to mitigate damage at high levels.

On its own, the Gyrfalcon’s Hauberk was proving to be a very viable choice for Hunters in Destiny 2, but it didn’t take players long before they found some combos that made it a little too strong. Specifically, when the Hunter player was working with a Titan, they could buff their teammates to the point they were unkillable.

For those that might not be familiar with the Gyrfalcon’s Hauberk, its utility revolves around the Hunter player turning invisible. Whether it’s using a dodge, a Stylish Execution kill, or even a kill using the Rat King exotic sidearm, a Hunter could trigger the two key benefits of the Gyrfalcon’s Hauberk after the invisibility period ended.

For the Hunter that turned invisible, they would gain increased weapon damage after becoming “visible” again. On its own, this buff wasn’t game-breaking, but strong enough to make the Gyrfalcon’s Hauberk a great choice for Destiny 2 players in PvP.

On the PvE side, however, the Gyrfalcon’s Hauberk was allowing Titans to have increased damage mitigation to the point that they couldn't be killed. The Gyrfalcon’s Hauberk’s ability to give teammates increased class ability regeneration after the invisible Hunter uses a finisher on an enemy led to some unintended results.

If the Titan was wearing the Loreley Splendor Helm or using Juggernaut in their Arc 3.0 subclass, they would benefit from the increased class ability regeneration forever. Because the Loreley Splendor exotic Destiny 2 helmet and Juggernaut use the Titan’s class ability automatically (i.e. without the player pressing a button), the game doesn’t exhaust the bonus regeneration. As a result, the Loreley Splendor-wearing Titan could spawn sunspots every few seconds and gain Restoration healing.

As a result, Bungie had to disable the Gyrfalcon’s Hauberk in order to fix this behavior. Without question, this combo could lead to players breezing through endgame content like Destiny 2's reprised King's Fall raid or dungeons, even with Loreley Splendor receiving a nerf this week. Instead of the original Restoration x2 buff that the exotic helmet used to give on sunspot trigger, Bungie dropped the benefit down to Restoration x1.

However, for Hunters that were hoping to take Gyrfalcon’s Hauberk into Trials of Osiris, which just returned for the first time in Season 18, they were met with disappointment. Hopefully, Bungie can find a fix for the exotic soon.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
