Armor mods have seen significant changes and improvements in Destiny 2 over the past few years. Shadowkeep added Armor 2.0 back in 2019. When Beyond Light was released in November 2020, Ghosts got the same treatment. While originally Ghost Shells were just cosmetics in Destiny 2, they now have energy and mods that can be equipped.

The mods available to Ghosts are significantly different from the ones that players can equip on their armor, but the benefits they provide are worth it. This guide will explain Ghost mods and what benefits the mods provide for players throughout the various activities in the game.

Ghost Mods Explained

When examining their Ghost, players will see that there are four mod sockets available. Before socketing any Ghost mods, players must make sure to increase the maximum amount of energy available for mods. Masterworking, or raising energy to 10, is significantly cheaper to do for a Ghost Shell than armor or weapons. At most, it will cost just Glimmer and Legendary Shards. Players will not need to use any Enhancement Prisms or Ascendant Shards. Since mods have different energy costs, players will want as much energy as possible to equip either several mods or a couple of powerful mods.

Experience Mod Socket

As their name implies, mods that go in the Experience Mod Socket will boost XP gains. The most basic mod will give 2% more XP, while the most expensive mod will grant 12% more XP. There are six mods in total for this socket.

Tracking Mod Socket

Tracking Ghost mods are very useful. They allow Destiny 2 players to highlight planetary resources or loot caches scattered across patrol zones. The range varies from 20 to 75 meters, but the longer the range the more expensive the mod will be. There are also combo detectors that allow players to highlight both planetary resources and loot caches.

Economic Mod Socket

These Ghost mods boost resource gains for players. Primarily, mods for this socket will boost Glimmer. Beyond that, mods in this socket can influence the stat rolls on armor that players obtain. There is a mod that guarantees 10 in a stat (Intellect, Strength, Disicipline, etc) whenever players get armor. There is also a mod that improves Public Event loot.

Activity Mod Socket

This set of Ghost mods will increase the likelihood of getting useful materials like Enhancement Cores and Enhancement Prisms. Of course, mods that provide a chance of getting Enhancement Prisms will cost more energy. These mods require players to do the following in core playlists to have a chance of getting either an Enhancement Core or Enhancement Prism.

Destiny 2 is available now on Epic Games Store, PS4, PS5, Steam, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
