Following Bungie's initial reveal of the current Season of the Worthy and its corresponding roadmap, one major event in particular seemed to capture the attention of players. The interestingly named Guardian Games remained a mysterious event on the calendar and thanks to its reveal earlier today, Destiny 2 players finally know what to expect.

As seen in the latest Destiny 2 trailer and corresponding blog post, the Guardian Games are taking the place of last year's Revelry Event. As expected, the event is a friendly competition of sorts between the three Destiny classes as Hunters, Warlocks, and Titans all battle it out through daily class challenges called Medals from Eva Levante. In addition, players can pick up Laurels dropped by other players in various game modes, which help complete medals. Each point earned gets added to a scoreboard located in the Tower as well as a massive podium, which is refreshed daily to show which class currently reigns supreme.

Of course, what would an event be without new loot? Guardian Games introduces new metallic class items, as seen in the latest trailer. The Olympic looking items, Bonds, Marks, and Cloaks will change between bronze, silver, and gold depending on the class's position on the leaderboard. Once the three week event comes to a close, the item's metal will lock into place for the rest of the year. Eva also has weekly exotic quests which unlock one of three exotic Ghosts, likely hinted at in a recent datamine.

The also leaked Heir Apparent, a brand new exotic heavy machine gun, is also going to be available during this time, though how to unlock it was not revealed. Naturally, the game's microtransaction store will be stocked with new items to purchase like emotes, universal ornaments, ships, and sparrows. The three week event kicks off next week at Tuesday's reset at which time the Tower will again be transformed with Yellow, Red, and Blue colors as well as the massive Podium.

While this event should pump a bit more life into the experience, Destiny 2 is currently resting on shaky ground with its fanbase and a likely turn to another bounty style system may not do much to make players any happier. Numerous issues have started to push players away from the experience such as the cheating issue on PC, the continued fall of Trials of Osiris, and the overall stale nature of the PvE side of things. Many players are having a difficult time finding reasons to grind out the game when rewards have become less and less enticing.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
