Destiny 2 players that prefer Titans or Warlocks can breathe easy; Bungie has heard your concerns about the upcoming Guardian Games event. Although the goal of the event is for each class to gain glory through representation, Bungie plans to balance the event totals to account for larger populations. In other words, Bungie knows there are a lot of Hunters out there, but they don’t have a higher chance of winning than any other class.

Soon after Bungie revealed Destiny 2’s Guardian Games trailer, players automatically assumed that Hunters had an easy win ahead of them. There are a lot of Hunters in Destiny 2, especially in PvP, but some would argue that there are just as many Titans and Warlocks.

Regardless of whichever class is the most popular, Bungie’s German Community Manager Maurice confirmed that the Destiny 2 dev has systems in place to ensure balance. Even if Hunter numbers outpace Titans and Warlocks by significant margins, the end result will account for that.

Even as Warlocks and Titans have increased their viability in PvE and PvP, Hunters still remain the most popular class in Destiny because of aesthetics and movement. For Crucible players, Hunters offer a lot more verticality without floating in the air for too long. On the PvE side, Hunters are not as strong, but any fireteam can use a good Nightstalker Tether. Some might think that it is just a perceived Hunter dominance, but even Maurice says that there is an “excess number of Hunters.”

How exactly Bungie might be able to balance for a lot of Hunters in Guardian Games is unclear, but the hope is that this turns out better than the Faction Rally. Even when Bungie tried to give New Monarchy and Future War Cult better weapons, Dead Orbit dominated the event almost every time thanks to its black and white color scheme for shaders.

In this week’s Weekly Update, Bungie offered a few additional details about Guardian Games and the general flow of the event. Players will complete bounties as a certain class to unlock rewards and work towards an overall score. Whichever class wins the event will be immortalized in the Tower for a full year, and the class items associated with each class’ placement will be locked to a certain color scheme. So, if Titans come in last place (very likely), the below class item will be locked at Bronze instead of Silver or Gold.

At a time when Destiny 2 is struggling to keep players invested, it will be interesting to see how many people return to support their favorite class.  Past community events like the Empyrean Foundation have had a huge turnout, so it may be a dogfight to see which class reigns supreme for the year.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
