Destiny 2 has officially confirmed its plans for the 2023 Guardian Games. Players can compete during the in-game event next month and have an opportunity to unlock a pair of Guardian Games weapons.

Former Halo developer Bungie launched Destiny 2 in 2017, with its most recent expansion, Lightfall, launching in February. In addition, the game’s hosted its annual Guardian Games event every Spring since 2020. Inspired by real-world competitions like the Olympics, the three-week event sees Destiny 2 players choose their favorite class and compete to see who’s the best. Last year also saw Bungie introduce the Guardian Games Cup, a charity competition where teams compete to win the most medals while raising money over Twitch.

This year’s event runs for three weeks, from May 2 until May 23, when Destiny 2’s Season of Defiance ends. Players will earn Medals from various in-game activities, including a new class-based version of Destiny 2’s supremacy PvP mode. Participants also have an opportunity to earn the Taraxippos Legendary Strand Scout Rifle and The Title, a Void Submachine Gun. The latter comes with the powerful Repulsor Brace Perk, which grants an Overshield after killing a target affected by the Suppression, Weaken, or Volatile effects.

Destiny 2 players complete challenges and earn Guardian Games rewards, including two new Exotic Emotes, using their free Event Cards. Completing every challenge on the Event Card rewards players with the “Champ” title. Players can also unlock new rewards by upgrading their Event Card for 200 Silver.

The Guardian Games Cup also returns and is now open to all players rather than just those chosen by Destiny 2’s Twitch community. Bungie’s also splitting the competition into the Technical and Charitable categories. The former tracks the number of Metals that each team wins during Destiny 2’s 2023 Guardian Games. Meanwhile, the Charitable category tracks how much money each Fireteam raised through the team’s official Bungie Foundation sign-up page. The donations collected during this year’s event go to the humanitarian relief organizations Direct Relief and the International Rescue Committee. Participants who donate $25 or more unlock the Quantum Relay Emblem.

The top team in the Technical category wins custom art of their Fireteam made by PherianArt. Meanwhile, the highest-ranked team in the Charity category gets custom artwork of their squad from Gammatrap. In addition, the top two teams in each category get The Guardian Games Pendants worth $200. The top three teams in both categories also unlock the Apricot Dawn Emblem, while the top four get $50 in Bungie Store discount codes.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
