Bungie is already setting the stage for Destiny 2's next major event - this year's Guardian Games. Effectively the equivalent of the Olympics for magical super-soldiers, Guardian Games have historically served as a change of pace for both the players and the ongoing seasonal narrative, and the event's 2022 iteration looks to be no different in this respect.

On that note, Destiny 2 is making some potentially huge changes to how Guardian Games will work moving forward. While the core and the atmosphere of the event will mainly remain the same, the mechanics of how players interact with the new content seem to be revamped from the ground up, with the biggest change being the introduction of Strike scoring.

While the Guardian Games of 2021 didn't introduce any major new playlists or mechanics, the 2022 version of the event is going to open up three completely new playlists: Recreational, Training, and Competitive. To earn the maximum number of medals, players will need to jump into different playlists on different days, refer to their specific scoring systems (individual vs. fireteam-based), and attempt to earn as high of a Strike score as possible. The reason Strike scoring is noteworthy, mind, is that it was a beloved feature in the first Destiny, and its presence in Guardian Games could suggest that Bungie is looking to reintroduce it in the future.

Alongside the new Strike score playlists, players looking to compete in the Guardian Games can also pick up dedicated Contender Cards, which award the games' currencies and Medals for playing evergreen activities, such as Raids, Dungeons, and the current seasonal activity, the PsiOps Battlegrounds. One of the rewards for doing so will be a new Hakke Void SMG, The Title. The weapon is particularly notable because it could be Destiny 2's next best Void 3.0 SMG.

Guardian Games 2022 will begin on May 3rd as a free-to-play event that any player can compete in. Some of the announced rewards include unique Class items, the new SMG, various resources, cosmetics, and an exclusive emblem that will be given to the top 10% of highest-performing Guardians once the event closes down. This will, coincidentally, be the best opportunity for players to enjoy the current sandbox meta in both PvE and PvP modes, as Destiny 2 has already teased huge weapon changes for the next season.

Since Hunters won Guardian Games 2021 for the second time in a row, Titan and Warlock players could very well use this revamped version of Guardian Games and the new playlists to finally take the crown for a year. Due to the disbalance in the number of players playing different classes (with Hunters being the most numerous), however, this is easier said than done.

Destiny 2 is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
