The Graviton Lance is one of the oldest weapons in Destiny 2. Introduced as a reward for the intro quests, it has managed to remain a relevant weapon still in use by some players. It's great for clearing waves of enemies thanks to its chain reaction abilities, and some players swear by its use in PVP.

Getting the Graviton Lance Catalyst takes a bit of work, and quite a bit more to reach its full potential. For some it is absolutely worth the effort, and for others it’s a fun secondary pursuit during other goals. Here’s everything players need to know about the Graviton Lance Catalyst and where to get it.

What It Does

Destiny 2 Graviton Lance

The Graviton Lance Catalyst comes with a single perk that provides a single benefit to the Exotic weapon:

  • Hidden Hand – Better Target Acquisition

Essentially, it causes the targeting reticle of the weapon to better hone in one opponents, like it’s magnetized towards their bodies. This has some obvious benefits, as it can raise accuracy and increase damage. However, it also has a downside. If multiple enemies are passing back and forth in front of each other, it can cause targeting to jump around a bit.

How To Find It

Destiny 2 Inverted Spire Enemies

The Graviton Lance Catalyst is a randomized drop that appears when killing enemies in either Strikes or Crucible. It doesn’t matter what type of enemy is killed, and difficulty seems to have zero impact on the odds of it appearing. Both completing Strikes and winning Crucible matches seem to have equal odds of a drop occurring.

Grinding Mindbender’s Farm or Lake of Shadows is a solid way to quickly complete Strikes. Again, the odds of it appearing are totally random, but completing multiple Strikes quickly will give players more chances for it to drop sooner.

Upgrading

Once the Graviton Lance Catalyst is obtained, players should strongly consider upgrading it. This requires a bit of grind and isn’t for the faint of heart. The player will need to kill 500 enemies using the Graviton Lance.

In addition to this requirement, players will also need to kill an additional one thousand enemies via the Cosmology Perk. Cosmology causes a final blow against an enemy to explode and spawn two more rounds that target nearby units. For the kill to count, these two spawns will need to kill whatever they hit.

Tips

Destiny 2 Guardian Weilding A Graviton Lance

As mentioned earlier, the Mindbender’s Farm or Lake of Shadows Strikes is a fast way to grind out the Graviton Lance Catalyst. Having a solid Clan willing to commit to this grind can make things go faster and more efficiently. It’s not a bad idea to chase down other Catalysts that drop in Strikes like the Deathbringer Catalyst.

The main perk of this weapon is its ability to perform chain kills when fighting waves of enemies. This is important to note, as it’s the easiest way to achieve the one thousand Cosmology kills needed for the upgrade. Getting this is near impossible in PVP, but against waves of weaker enemies it’s much more feasible.
