In Destiny 2 the currency "Glimmer" can be spent on a variety of things including new weapons, new ships, new mods, and equipping shaders. It's why players try to discover Glimmer farming methods to earn the currency in the most efficient way possible. However, it seems that the game has a Glimmer farming cap which prevents players from earning it quickly.

In a post on Reddit, Destiny 2 player NoctisNoctua details the experiments that they conducted to prove that the Glimmer farming cap exists. The player did four tests overall (three in the European Dead Zone and one on Titan) and discovered that once players have earned a certain amount of Glimmer (approximately 400), "the currency stops coming until you refrain from killing anything for a while." Moreover, "If you take a break for a moment, the next glimmer cap is even smaller (mine stopped at 200 after a 20 second rest)."

NoctisNoctua says that during one test, after they stopped gaining Glimmer, they killed 60 enemies "who didn't drop any Glimmer at all." They started at 6,000 Glimmer, earned 280 Glimmer before the cap, and then continued to kill enemies after the Glimmer stopped but when they checked their inventory it still said they only had 6,280 Glimmer.

In response to the Reddit thread, many Destiny 2 players have pointed out that a similar Glimmer farming cap existed in Destiny 1 and that this isn't just a new construct by developer Bungie. Bungie has likely kept the Glimmer farming cap to dissuade players from using exploits to earn more of the currency. The developer may also hope to force players to play the game normally rather than working out the most efficient methods to earn Glimmer.

But just because the cap existed before, that doesn't make this bitter pill any easier for Destiny 2 players to swallow. Especially as the confirmation of a Glimmer farming cap comes not long after Bungie admitted that it had limited the amount of XP players could earn. It was also revealed that Bungie has raised the amount of XP required to unlock a Bright Engram, further souring players' opinion of the developer and the game.

The ongoing controversy surrounding Destiny 2 and the way that loot is earned has led many to question why Bungie seems to "punish" people for playing so much. Bungie still hasn't provided answers on that front and so it's understandable why so many fans are feeling disheartened about a game that they otherwise enjoy.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
