Bungie is a developer with a long and storied history, making sci-fi shooters across generations. It has been in the business for 30 years and is celebrating its anniversary with a special event in Destiny 2, adding several weapons that are clear callbacks to Halo, Bungie's previous franchise.

While they're legally distinct, they carry their predecessor's spirit. Destiny 2's Forerunner is clearly based on Halo's Magnum, and the Other Half sword is a cheeky play on The Covenant's Energy Sword.

While Destiny 2 offers a paid DLC pack for the event, players won't need to buy it to get the Other Half Sword. Unlike the returning exotic Gjallarhorn rocket launcher from Destiny 1, the Other Half Sword isn't tied to the exclusive Grasp of Avarice dungeon.

Updated on February 8, 2022, by Anastasia Maillot: After two months of the 30th Anniversary update, the Other Half sword continues to be an extremely elusive and rare drop from Xur's Dares of Eternity activity. While some lucky fans have been able to get their hands on this Halo-inspired purple sword with the popular Eager Edge perk, most players have yet to find the Other Half. For those who are only tuning in now to play Dares of Eternity, this guide has been updated with small tips and brand-new information regarding how to get the Other Half sword in Destiny 2, and also about the future of the Eager Edge perk, which may not be as good as fans would hope in the Witch Queen expansion.

Where To Find The Other Half Sword

Destiny 2 Xur

The only place that players can get the Other Half Sword is in Xur's Treasure Hoard. Players can find this special shop by choosing Eternity in their Destinations directory.

It won't be a direct purchase, however. They'll need a bit of luck on their side as well. The Other Half Sword is hidden in one of Xur's treasure chests, which function like a legendary weapon gacha. The correct chest it can drop from is the one located on the ledge overlooking the rest of the Treasure Room, just past Xur himself.

In order to open one of the chests, players need to use a Treasure Key. Finding and saving up Treasure Keys is a task in and of itself and requires hours upon hours of grinding.

The Other Half Vs. Half-Truths Sword

The 30th Anniversary update included two swords that appear very similar. The Other Half shouldn't be confused with the Half-Truths sword, which is a significantly more common drop from the same activity. The two swords have almost identical designs, but The Other Half is distinguished by its purple color.

How To Get Treasure Keys

The most straightforward way to get Treasure Keys is to buy them directly from Starhorse using Destiny 2's Strange Coins, a special currency for this event. Each Treasure Key costs 10 Strange Coins. To get Strange Coins, players simply need to play Dares of Eternity.

The fastest way to get Treasure Keys without using Strange Coins, however, is to participate in Dares of Eternity, the event's co-operative survival mission that's free to all players. Six players can play each session, and every successful run guarantees a Treasure Key drop. This way, players can save up their Strange Coins for better purchases from Starhorse.

Destiny 2 Starhorse Bounty

Make sure to also grab a Starhorse bounty before jumping in, from the magical horse found also in Xur's Treasure Hoard. Completed Starhorse bounties reward the player with Paraversal Hauls, which in turn can reward additional Treasure Keys, Strange Coins, Legendary Gear, and Exotic Gear for the player.

Players can buy the first three bounties once every day, and the last three once every weekly reset, making them a fantastic way to farm for more Coins and Keys.

Once the player has enough treasure keys, all they need to do is to return to Xur's Treasure Hoard. From there, they just need to interact with the treasure chest next to him.

The Other Half Sword's Worth

Destiny 2 Player Holding Other Half Sword

Rolling for the Other Half Sword can be quite an investment. It could take quite a few runs before the player gets lucky. There's no official drop rate on the Other Half Sword just yet, with some receiving the sword in the first few weeks of Dares of Eternity, and others having played over 50 hours of the game mode with no luck. Like with everything that relies on RNG in Destiny 2, patience and persistence are key.

Destiny 2 Other Half Sword

For Halo fans, the appeal of bringing a version of the iconic Energy Sword into a new setting might be enough to justify the effort. For players who don't care about that, however, there's still a reason to go for it. The Other Half Sword brings back one of Destiny's old movement exploits, sword skating, thanks to the Eager Edge weapon perk.

Though considering this perk will see a significant nerf in the Witch Queen expansion, most players might be content just having a Half-Truths sword with Eager Edge. The main appeal of The Other Half remains its incredible rarity.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
