For this week’s Nightfall Strike weapon reward, Destiny 2 players have a chance to get a god roll for a Destiny 1 classic, the Hung Jury SR4 Scout Rifle. This Precision Frame rifle has solid stats and a few great perks that make it useful in PvE and usable in the Crucible.

In Season of the Splicer, three more classic Destiny 1 weapons were reintroduced to Destiny 2 as Nightfall rewards. During this season, players will also be able to get other classics, including the Palindrome Hand Cannon, Plug One.1 Fusion Rifle, and Uzume RR4 Sniper Rifle.

Hung Jury is a kinetic-damage, Precision Frame Scout Rifle, meaning it has medium stats across the board, and controllable vertical recoil. Grandmaster Nightfalls are also now available in Season of the Splicer, so Destiny 2 players can get the Adept version of Hung Jury which has a slot for stat-boosting Adept Weapon Mods.

This weapon can roll with some decent perks but there are a couple in each slot that stand above the rest and work well in both PvE and PvP, even if Scout Rifles currently aren't the best primary weapon type. As a Scout Rifle, it excels at medium-to-long ranges, so a secondary weapon to fill the close-range gap is needed. Primary ammo weapon types such as SMGs and Sidearms can pair well, but high-damage, special ammo weapons like Shotguns and Fusion Rifles will make for a solid loadout. Sojourner’s Tale, First In, Null Composure, and Plug One.1 are all great secondary weapon choices.

How to Get Hung Jury SR4:

Hung Jury is a Nightfall Weapon which means it only has a chance to drop when players complete a Nightfall Strike. It can drop on any Nightfall difficulty, but harder difficulties have significantly higher weapon drop chances. Adept Nightfalls are very easy, but Nightfall Weapon drops are rare, while Master Nightfalls are much harder but Nightfall Weapons are common rewards.

To have a chance of getting the Adept variant, Destiny 2 players must complete a Grandmaster Nightfall Strike. Players also have better odds of getting Enhancement Prisms, Ascendant Shards, and Exotic Gear at higher difficulties and for defeating all Champions to get a Platinum rating.

Hung Jury SR4 Perk Recommendations:

Given that Hung Jury has some solid stats across the board, it can be difficult to settle on the right perks to improve the weapon further. Its Handling and Reload Speed stats are good enough that they are not desperate for improvement, so Destiny 2 players should definitely focus on the perks that will improve Stability and Range to make Hung Jury more accurate and easier to use.

Smallbore adds seven points to the Range and Stability stats, which will be acts as a nice boost for Hung Jury’s overall accuracy from a barrel perk. Corkscrew Rifling will add similar benefits to Stability, Range, and Handling, as well. Extended Barrel will grant more Range and improved recoil at the cost of Handling, while Hammer-Forge Rifling will add a flat 10-point increase to Hung Jury’s Range.

For magazine perks, Tactical Mag is the best choice for PvE and the Crucible. It improves Stability, quickens the reload, and adds slightly extends the magazine. Accurized Rounds and Steady Rounds will give 10-point boosts to Range and Stability, respectively, making them good for Crucible rolls of Hung Jury.

In perk slot one, Destiny 2 players should aim for Rapid Hit. This perk provides a stacking buff to a weapon’s reload speed and stability based on rapid precision shots, which is a nice bonus in PvE but very useful in PvP. Alternatively, for a more PvE-oriented roll, Subsistence will feed a chunk of bullets into the magazine from reserves with each kill, meaning players will rarely have to reload with this perk equipped.

As for perk slot two, Firefly is by far the best perk for Hung Jury, and is known for its lethality on Fatebringer in Destiny 1. Precision kills will increase the weapon’s reload speed, negating the need for any other reload-boosting perks, and will cause enemies to release a Solar-damage explosion. It is obviously best for PvE due to its add-clear potential, but can also be helpful in the Crucible, rewarding players for being accurate.

While not as powerful in PvE compared to Firefly, Explosive Payload is a good alternative as it gives Hung Jury exploding bullets that deal a portion of its damage as an area-of-effect blast. This perk also works nicely in PvP since getting hit with an Explosive Payload bullet causes above-average flinch.

Suggested Hung Jury SR4 Rolls:

PvE – Ultimate General-Purpose Scout Rifle:

A Scout Rifle to end all Scout Rifles, this roll allows players to clear groups of enemies with never-ending bullets. This roll will also be usable, at the very least, in PvP too.

  • Smallbore or Corkscrew Rifling
  • Tactical Mag
  • Subsistence or Rapid Hit
  • Firefly
  • Stability Masterwork

PvP – Long-Range Poker:

By using this roll, players use cover to poke and disrupt enemies from longer ranges while being a tricky target to hit. Players can opt for all-out range or Stability improvements, or a balance of the two with magazine and Masterwork slots.

  • Hammer-Forged Rifling or Extended Barrel
  • Accurized Rounds or Steady Rounds
  • Rapid Hit or Moving Target
  • Explosive Payload
  • Range or Stability Masterwork
