This past Saturday, Destiny 2 players got their first taste of Forsaken content in the form of the Gambit free trial. It featured a single map but was an opportunity for fans to see what Bungie is bringing to the table with its competitive PvE mode.

However, even with a trial there are bound to be issues and criticisms, with one of the more common complaints revolving around disconnects and quitters. Luckily, Bungie has two systems forthcoming with Destiny 2: Forsaken’s full launch that will address these issues.

As some know, Destiny 2 is planning to add a new system whereby players can rejoin their group should they get disconnected. Rather than leave that fireteam slot empty or open, the game will put a placeholder for the disconnected player to join. Unfortunately, the rejoin system was not in place during the Gambit trial, so those who lost a teammate were left at a disadvantage.

With that disadvantage came a lot of quitting, but Bungie promises to tackle that problem as well. Along with revealing that the rejoin system was not active Gambit Feature Lead and Bungie Senior Designer Robbie Stevens revealed that there will be a quitters penalty for those who leave a Gambit match.

Stevens didn’t reveal what the quitters penalty would be, but the most likely punishments are a timed lockout from accessing Gambit or a loss of Infamy rank. Bungie has done similar timed lockouts as punishments but these have typically been centered around cheaters and have lasted for several days, if not longer. However, a Gambit quitter is more likely to see lost access for a few minutes. Long enough so they can’t simply rejoin matchmaking for another Gambit match so quickly after leaving.

The Infamy punishment would be more interesting, as it would directly take away from players’ progress towards gear. Destiny 2: Forsaken is building off the concepts of Glory and Valor with Infamy and using it as a way to track players’ reputation in Gambit. There will be Gambit bounties and rewards to unlock at different ranks, not unlike what is available in the Crucible or Strikes. So if a player lost some Infamy that might be a harsher punishment but it could better deter players from quitting.

Destiny 2: Forsaken releases September 4, 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
