Destiny 2's Season of the Drifter starts March 5 and with it the brand new Gambit Prime mode for Annual Pass owners. Gambit Prime is a one-round spin on Gambit's intense combination of PvE and PvP combat and a core part of that high-intensity gameplay will be the introduction of roles and armor sets. Today Bungie detailed what those roles will be in a new trailer.

As previously revealed, there are four roles coming for Gambit Prime during the Season of the Drifter: Reaper, Sentry, Collector, and Invader. Each role will have its own set of armor and perks, which enable them to excel at a given task in Gambit Prime. For example, a Collector excels at gathering and protecting motes and will benefit from doing so. Alternatively, an Invader is empowered to invade the enemy team and their team will be rewarded if the Invader is successful.

While taking up the mantle of any given role doesn't prevent a player from performing other tasks, it's just one way that Bungie wants Destiny 2 players to play the way they want to play and be rewarded for it.

In the new Gambit Prime trailer, Bungie breaks down the perks for each different role's armor and perks:

  • Reaper (Green) - Clear Waves + Slay Larger Enemies
    • Weaken High-Value Targets
    • Multikills Generate Special Ammo
    • Gain Increased Mode Lifetime
    • Powerful Enemy Kills Increase Grenade Recharge
  • Sentry (Yellow) - Counter Invasion + Bank Protection
    • Multikills Grants A Damage Buff Against Taken
    • Bank Gives Health Regeneration
    • Mark Invaders for Teammates
    • Buff Allies In the Well of Light
  • Collector (White) - Collect Motes + Send Blockers
    • Drop Motes On Death
    • Motes Grant Overshield
    • Gain Ammo On Mote Deposit
    • Send Giant 20-Mote Blockers
  • Invader (Red) - Hunt Players + Steal Motes
    • Gain Ammo While Invading
    • Improved Invasion Overshield
    • Damage Bonus On Guardian Kills
    • Lock and Drain Motes From Enemy Bank

And to finish the Destiny 2 trailer, Bungie drops a teaser: "But winning is just the beginning." Bungie's said previously that Gambit Prime is just half of the core loop that will make up the Season of the Drifter. Players are supposed to bounce between Gambit Prime and the other major addition planned for release tomorrow, Reckoning. Powering up for one is intended to power you up for the other.

The Season of the Drifter is Bungie's first content drop following its separation from publisher Activision. And while it's unclear just how much of that partnership remains in place as Destiny 2 moves forward, there's no better time for Bungie to define what a post-Activision Destiny is than now. Hopefully, the Season of the Drifter is exactly what both Bungie and Destiny fans want.

Destiny 2: Forsaken is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
