One of the biggest changes that came with the launch of Destiny 2 was the change to the weapon system, which didn’t sit well with many Destiny fans. However, Destiny 2’s upcoming Forsaken expansion completely changes how the weapon system works.

Destiny 2 moved away from the primary, special, heavy format and shifted toward a two-primary system, leaving the heavy hitting-weapons in the power weapon slot. However, with Forsaken, players will be able to equip a variety of weapons in the kinetic and energy weapon slots.  According to Bungie, players will be able to even equip three shotguns if they want to, which should make taking down raid bosses even more interesting.

Forsaken appears to be the new start that Bungie has been looking for, a chance to fix a lot of the glaring issues with Destiny 2 at the moment. While Warmind was a step in the right direction, it is clear that Bungie is trying to fix a lot of the complaints that fans have at the moment.

The Forsaken expansion takes guardians back to the Reef, the home of the Awoken and a returning location from Destiny. However, it appears that fans will be able to explore more of the Reef this time around. It will also feature a new game mode that blends PvP and PvE, called Gambit.

The concern with these weapon slot changes is that weapons will be much harder to balance. If players are running a sniper in the kinetic slot, and shotguns in the others, it may make Crucible a bit harder to manage. Bungie has stated that this concern will be addressed this summer as updates on Forsaken come through. Regardless, it’s nice to see Bungie responding and incorporating community feedback into the development process.

Destiny 2: Forsaken launches on September 4 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
