The highest endgame activities in Destiny 2 have always been cooperative ones, such as raids and Trials of the Nine. Sometimes, players who prefer to play the game solo instead of with a group have raised concerns of being left out especially when it comes to the endgame. But developer Bungie says that the developers behind Destiny 2: Forsaken have focused on making sure that there is plenty to do for solo players.

While answering a number of questions about the upcoming expansion from Game Informer, game director Steve Cotton and project lead Scott Taylor both said that there is a lot to do and discover even as a solo player:

"We've been trying really hard to make sure there's plenty of things for solo players to do at the end of the game, so the answer is an emphatic 'yes.'"

The developers mentioned that solo players can matchmake and play Gambit, the game's new PvE/PvP hybrid mode. Cotton also mentioned that when solo players travel to The Dreaming City, Destiny 2's new hub for endgame activities, as it has been described, there are things to discover "that are very interesting for solo players."

It will definitely be interesting to see how the Destiny 2 experience changes for the solo player as the game undergoes a radical transformation between the upcoming Forsaken expansion and the version of the game that launched last September. At launch, Destiny 2 focused more on the casual player, giving more avenues to level up even outside of endgame activities and attempts to get solo players grouped up with features like Guided Games. But over the past few months and now with the impending release of Forsaken, the game has returned to some of its more grindy and group-focused gameplay that was so prevalent in Destiny 1.

However, according to the developers, the solo players have been kept in mind during Forsaken's development, so those players will have to make the final judgment next month when the expansion launches.

Destiny 2: Forsaken releases on September 4, 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
