Destiny 2: Forsaken's Raid Will Continue Campaign's Story

For Destiny 2’s upcoming Forsaken expansion developer Bungie is trying plenty of new things. From the new approach to weapon slots to the new PvE/PvP Gambit mode, there are going to be a lot of aspects of the expansion that might surprise players. And presumably that will extend to the game’s pinnacle experience, the raid.

While we don’t know too much about the raid in Destiny 2: Forsaken, we do know that it will take place in the new endgame area, The Dreaming City. And thanks to an interview with project lead Scott Taylor conducted by Twinfinite, we have some more details to pore over.

Perhaps the biggest reveal from Taylor’s interview, is that the raid in Destiny 2: Forsaken will be an extension of the campaign’s story. Whereas most past Destiny raids have told their own stories or featured their own villains, it sounds as though Forsaken’s raid will build off of what players experience while playing through the expansion’s main missions.

"Sure, I can tell you that the raid is tied thematically story wise to the campaign so it’s not some whole separate thing, it’s the culmination of the stuff you learn about the adventure that we’re talking about and that it’s very boss heavy. We’ve talked about that too."

Taylor's comments will likely lead to a lot of questions and speculation but it sounds as though Destiny 2 players can expect a raid experience similar to The Taken King’s King’s Fall. After vanquishing Oryx in the main campaign, raid teams entered Oryx’s Ascendant Realm to truly defeat him, while dispatching some of his strongest generals along the way.

In fact, some would argue that Forsaken’s raid has set its sights on King’s Fall in more ways than one. As previously revealed, this endgame experience will feature the most boss fights of any Destiny experience, meaning it will have at least 5 to top King’s Fall’s 4 (Warpriest, Golgoroth, Daughters, and Oryx).

On top of talk of boss fights, there is also the question of how the raid will build off the Forsaken story. All we know at this point is that players will be seeking revenge against Prince Uldren after the Awoken killed Cayde-6. That revenge will include defeating/capturing the 8 Barons that have escaped from the Prison of Elders.

Given that, it’s possible that the Destiny 2: Forsaken raid could see players facing off against Uldren or some of the Barons. Or perhaps there is someone or something bigger behind the scenes that will reveal itself as part of the campaign and go on to be the final boss of the raid.

Whatever the case may be, Destiny 2 players certainly have a lot to look forward to with Forsaken. And now we have yet another mystery to discuss involving the upcoming raid.

Destiny 2: Forsaken releases September 4, 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
