For the first time since the first teases of Destiny 1, developer Bungie is talking about the raid before players actually get to see it firsthand. But that’s for a good reason, as the raid will tie into the endgame in Destiny 2 Forsaken.

While the Destiny 2 Forsaken reveal stream didn’t touch too much upon the upcoming raid, Bungie did want players to know one thing: this latest raid will have more bosses than any before. The lack of boss fights was a criticism raised against the Leviathan raid when it first released during Destiny 2’s first year and it seems Bungie is taking those critiques to heart. Boss fights are, after all, a pillar of the endgame experience.

“For this next’s raid we wanted to get back to that epic adventure where you’re going out to slay a big monster again. This raid has more bosses than any raid we’ve had before and we’re really excited to get players in there.”

Just the promise of more bosses for Destiny 2’s raid is sure to excite hardcore players, but Bungie had more to say about the endgame. As part of the stream, the developer revealed the Dreaming City, an endgame space that connects to the raid and hides a ton of secrets.

According to Bungie, the Dreaming City will feature puzzles and areas to find, and doing so will change the landscape. As players complete endgame activities, like the raid, they will see the Dreaming City change. In other words, the Dreaming City is a way for Destiny 2 Forsaken to add depth to the endgame.

Lore-wise, the Dreaming City is referred to as the home world of the Awoken, which suggests that players will learn more about the race’s key characters. Whether or not that means the Queen and her brother will make an appearance in Forsaken is unclear, but if Mara Sov is coming back in Forsaken Bungie likely wants to keep that a secret.

It’s unclear if Bungie will have more to say about Destiny 2 Forsaken’s raid and the Dreaming City at a later date, but this was an intriguing tease. While there were a lot of criticisms raised towards Destiny 2, and many of those will be addressed in Forsaken, the fact that the endgame felt unrewarding and empty was a major one for dedicated players.

Today’s Destiny 2 Forsaken reveal featured a lot of new information, including details on how Bungie is revamping the weapon system. But as Community Deej said in the stream, this is just the table of contents. More specific conversations will take place throughout the summer.

Destiny 2: Forsaken releases September 4, 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
