Much like previous expansions, Forsaken is raising the Destiny 2 level cap for those who own it. In Game Informer’s recent Forsaken breakdown, Bungie confirmed that the new level cap in Destiny 2 will be 50, which is a steep jump from the current cap of 30. They also confirmed that the new power level cap will be 600, well above the current cap of 385.
Each of the prior DLC’s for Destiny 2 increased the level cap by a fair increment, but this is the largest jump the game has seen yet, which makes sense as Forsaken is the largest expansion Bungie has produced for the Destiny franchise. The DLC will bring a ton of new loot, enemies, and areas to explore, so it seems Bungie is giving players a big grind to keep players invested throughout their exploration of the DLC.
The level cap was confirmed while Bungie and Game Informer ran through some details about the Dreaming City, the new endgame zone that players get to explore after the Forsaken campaign. The article stated that players may be too underleveled to fully explore the Dreaming City if they venture there immediately after the campaign. The Dreaming City will feature new secrets, new public events, and a new game mode for players to take part in, similar to Court of Oryx or Archon’s Forge from Destiny.
The other new patrol zone is the Tangled Shore, a new area in the Reef that the majority of the Forsaken expansion takes place in. Players will explore this area as they hunt down the Barons of the Scorn, and work alongside Fallen to clear out the new enemies that escaped from the Prison. The Fallen in this area are led by an NPC called The Spider, who serves as the vendor for the lawless frontier.
A huge increase in character and power levels is a nice turn, though not surprising. Bungie is looking to make Destiny 2 a hobby game, much like Destiny was for so many players, so giving players a big goal to grind for is sure to keep many fans occupied for awhile.
Destiny 2: Forsaken launches September 4 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
