Since the launch of Destiny 2, many players have taken issue with developer Bungie's decision to change up the iconic weapon system of the first game. Instead of a weapon fitting into one of three categories: Primary, Special or Heavy, Destiny 2 introduced the Kinetic, Energy, and Power typings and YouTuber The Legend Himself is making his annoyance at the decision known.

In a video dedicated to analysis of the new weapon system, the YouTuber explains that the new system effectively gives players two primary weapons while limiting their fun to just the Power slot. Although there are very few new weapons introduced into Destiny 2, Guardians must now carry two variants on the primary weapon and make a choice between shotguns, sniper rifles, swords, rocket launchers, and fusion rifles, when it comes to filling their one remaining slot.

Unfortunately, the way the system is currently set out, there is no obvious disadvantage to carrying a rocket launcher. Thanks to the Titan class's Rally Barricade, the weapon gets auto-reloaded by taking cover, giving the rocket launcher the highest DPS against bosses, and it is the only Power weapon that is effective at any range. Because of this, there are virtually no downsides to picking rockets over any of the other options, which would be fine if the less versatile guns had their old Special slot to hang out in.

Since a big part of Destiny 2's appeal comes from the game's established loot system, having two thirds of the drops being restricted to what are effectively primary weapons removes a lot of the excitement from earning them in the first place. And while weapons back in Destiny such as the popular internet sensation, the Gjallarhorn, dominated the game once released, bringing an epic Power weapon to the game now would ensure that all the other special archetypes would never again see the light of day.

These flaws then extend to the game's PvP system as well, as obtaining the Power ammo in a multiplayer match allows Guardians to destroy their opponents, without giving them much of a chance at holding their own. Rocket launchers are again the best choice in the game here due to how safe they are to use, and how powerful they can be at all ranges, which again removes the iconic variety of the first Destiny.

There are definitely some much-needed improvements in Destiny 2 that we hope Bungie is currently working on, but The Legend Himself brings up what is effectively a fundamental flaw in how the game is built in the first place. Having already experienced how powerful we can feel in Destiny, making use of a system that restricts variety just seems boring in comparison. Unfortunately, this might be too big of a job to fix for the game's developer at this point in time.

Destiny 2 is out now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
