In recent year, Destiny fans have enjoyed participating in the Festival of the Lost, a special in-game event that celebrates Halloween. However, for Destiny 2's first year Bungie has decided not to bring the event back.

According to Community Manager DeeJ, Festival of the Lost won't be happening in Destiny 2 this year for a couple of reasons. First, Season 1 is focused on launch instead of running holiday events. Secondly, the first event planned for Destiny 2 is The Dawning, which is a winter-themed event set to kick off in December as part of the game's second season of content.

Some fans may be disappointed to learn that the Festival of the Lost won't be in Destiny 2 this year, but it shouldn't come as a big surprise. After all, the original Destiny didn't introduce the Halloween-themed event until October 2015, over a year after the game launched and The Taken King expansion was introduced.

For Destiny 2 players that missed out on the original game's festivities, the Festival of the Lost featured new quests, Halloween sound effects, decorations for the Tower, and more. The event also gave players the opportunity to collect special masks that gave their Guardians a unique look, including a Ghost mask and a Lost Prince mask.

It's unfortunate that Destiny 2 players won't have the opportunity to collect any masks this year, but DeeJ's comment leaves the door open for the Festival of the Lost to return next year. In the meantime, fans can look forward to The Dawning event in December, which will include a number of fun activities, like snowball fights and ice hockey.

Whether or not Destiny 2 fans take to The Dawning event as much as they did Festival of the Lost remains to be seen, but regardless it should provide players with more to do in the game. It may even convince the many lapsed players to return, especially if it releases around the same time as the Curse of Osiris expansion as speculated.

Destiny 2 is available now for PS4 and Xbox One. The PC version launches on October 24th.
