October has finally arrived, and the next holiday event is about to begin in Destiny 2. Festival of the Lost (FOTL) is arguably the most beloved event in the game for numerous reasons, such as new weapons to obtain, cosmetics to wear, and events to play.

FOTL would have already begun in the past, but Bungie is changing a few things with the event's return this year. This guide will help Destiny 2 players know when Festival of the Light will begin this year and what to expect with the changes Bungie will make to it.

When Does Festival Of The Lost Start?

Unfortunately, players will have to wait a little longer for the fabled return of the Festival of the Lost. The event will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the weekly reset. For reference, that's 1 PM eastern time in the U.S. It will run for three weeks until it eventually leaves on Tuesday, Nov. 8, at the weekly reset.

How Will Festival Of The Lost Change?

As mentioned before, Bungie is changing how FOTL will operate this year. This past summer, the Solstice of Heroes event also received a re-vamp, where the event introduced an Event Card. This card had players complete specific objectives throughout the event to earn exclusive rewards such as Exotic emotes, sparrows, ships, and more.

If a player were to complete all required objectives, they would earn the exclusive Flamekeeper title for the Solstice of Heroes. It would follow suit to anticipate an exclusive title for FOTL and an Event card. However, there's been no word on what event the FOTL will bring back this year. Further information will be released in a TWAB from the official Bungie page later this week.

Through official confirmations and datamines, there are two rewards players can expect to see for the FOTL. First is a brand-new cosmetic armor set, from which players voted to have earlier this year in a poll, the Team Mech set. The universal ornaments for this armor will be available via Silver or Bright Dust while the event is ongoing.

Secondly, thanks to the efforts of dataminers from a recent update to Destiny 2, they unveiled a brand new Sniper Rifle as the primary reward this year. The weapon's name is unknown, but it is confirmed to be an Arc weapon with an exclusive Origin Trait, Search Party.

As mentioned on their page, Bungie will release further information regarding the Festival of the Lost later this week as a TWAB. For the time being, players will have to wait a little longer before the highlight of the season begins.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Stadia.
