Guardians kept running into a problem with the beefier bosses and minibosses of Destiny 2. If they weren't at the appropriate power level or in a purposefully difficult playlist activity, they would eventually run out of all ammo types and be forced into some choices that didn't feel great, if they even had a choice, in the hopes of killing anything around or continue to contribute to team DPS. This was a problem exclusive to Destiny 2, as Destiny did have Primary Ammo Synthesizer as a resource. However, in that game, it was underutilized as Primary ammo drops were plentiful.

Bungie changed this in Season of the Lost, making it so primary weapons had an infinite ammo supply. The move is now being praised, as it no longer makes Guardians cower away from the fight, especially in time-sensitive or purposefully hard missions like Nightfalls and Grandmaster Strikes and Dungeons. Fans are taking to the r/destinythegame Reddit forums to praise the quality-of-life decision and reminisce on all the painful pitfalls of the past.

Reddit user destinyvoidlock made the original post praising the decision to give primary weapons infinite ammo and the effects it has had on the games more tedious interactions. One comment states that the Wish Wall within the Last Wish Raid is no longer an issue, as the mechanic, which requires shooting precision shots at the wall, would drain the weapon's reserves, leaving them unprepared for the upcoming fight. Now there's some wiggle room if Guardians miss or need to do an extra cycle to get the correct symbols to fulfill wishes.

Bows seem to have been especially helped by the infinite ammo change according to some comments. The ammo for bows had naturally low maximum reserve numbers so missing shots with bows were always costly. With the change, primary bows have one less barrier of use. Infinite ammo also seems to bring back previously maligned exotics.

The Sweet Business, Rat King, and Fighting Lion are continuously brought up in the thread. They were either deemed joke weapons thanks to their previously paltry reserves or just called bad because they weren't necessarily useful in-game. Some Guardians that just want to have a fun weapon in their primary slot for a while can now turn to these weapons for a spell, then swap to something else later, because another penalty of limited primary ammo was that they all used the same reserves.

Thanks to the ammo change, the high rate of fire submachine guns and full-auto sidearm can be used more often as well. Overall, the change ammo reserve to infinite promotes both fun and diversity to Destiny 2 load-outs.

Destiny 2 is out now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Stadia.
