One of the more interesting lore moments that Bungie's dropped on the Destiny 2 player base recently has come via an easily-overlooked description on one of the looter shooter's many exotic weapons. Introduced during the closing weeks of last year's Season of Arrivals, Traveler's Chosen, a markedly improved version of the original sidearm given to all Guardians at the onset of the Red War, tasked Earth's defenders with helping evacuate several planets ahead of their being consumed by the Darkness.

Io, Mars, Titan and Mercury were snapped out of existence Thanos style, a convenient story explanation for Bungie's need to Vault outdated content, prior to Beyond Light's launch, but not before their civilian populations were relocated to Earth's Last City. For contributing to those efforts, Zavala gifted players with a repaired version of the aforementioned firearm, revealing more information about the Hive's Savathûn, in the process.

Primed as the next major series villain as far back as 2018's Forsaken expansion, Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is expected to debut proper in next year's delayed DLC of the same name and is renowned for her powers of deception and unfathomable schemes. One of the most prominent examples of this is the description on Traveler's Chosen which explicitly suggests that Savathûn has already infiltrated Guardian headquarters and has been spying on them through the skull of a deceased Ahamkara situated in Lord Shaxx's quarters. Reddit user FangsFr, on the other hand, has an altogether different theory.

They believe Savathûn isn't surveilling the Vanguard through an inanimate object but rather, through the eyes of a cat. Humorously referring to a cat's tendency to knock over and break fragile household items, FangsFr points out that Zavala's feline friend, which can often be seen innocently grooming itself in one of Destiny 2's hidden Tower areas, refrains from this despite being sat next to numerous delicate vases. This uncharacteristic behavior is an obvious giveaway, they say, though realistically, this is clearly intended to be a joke.

What does hold a surprising amount of weight, however, is FangsFr's belief that Savathûn scouting her enemy's stronghold under the guise of a cat would actually make for a perfect form of infiltration, not least because they go largely unnoticed by the populace. Likewise, something as small and inquisitive as a feline could easily fit inside a hollow skull, accounting for what would otherwise be a loophole in the Traveler's Chosen lore entry. As for whether any of this will come to fruition, fans will just have to wait and see what transpires when The Witch Queen launches in early 2022.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
