Destiny 2's monthly event, Faction Rally, will be taking a break after its last appearance for Season 2 next week. Developer Bungie says it will be back eventually in Season 3, but that the event will undergo some changes to make it more compelling.

Faction Rally has been a monthly staple of Destiny 2 ever since the game's launch, but outside of some reskinned weapons and armor and a milestone to complete, the event has been mostly lackluster. In fact, many players have tried to min-max their effort during the Faction Rally by finding the best Faction Token farming spots.

Bungie said in its weekly blog that developers are aware of fan complaints about the event, so Faction Rally will get some time off for a redesign. Bungie did not detail exactly what would change, but the developer did identify the goals it hopes to accomplish once it returns:

  • Pledging to a faction should be a meaningful choice.
  • Rewards should not be time-gated.
  • Faction Rallies should provide a unique gameplay experience and not simply be a reward layer on top of the existing game.
  • The event should grant additional insight into faction lore and goals.
  • It should build upon player interest in Lost Sectors and armor ornament objectives.

Season 3 is set to begin in May 2018 in tandem with the release of the Destiny 2's second DLC for Year 1.  An exact date has yet to be announced.

With next week being the final Faction Rally for Season 2, players will need to earn any Season 2 armor ornaments they want before presumably they are gone for good. Ornament inventory for each Faction will completely change between the game's seasons, so completing the tasks necessary to unlock them should be done before the April 3 reset. That Faction Rally begins on March 27 at the weekly reset (10 a.m. PDT).

Destiny 2 and its Curse of Osiris expansion are available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
