Activision held an earnings call today and during the presentation, the publisher confirmed that not only will Destiny 2 be receiving its second Year 1 expansion in May, but another "major content release" will hit later this year. For fans familiar with the Destiny franchise, this most certainly signals a major expansion likely to release in the fall.

Destiny 2's first year is seeming to follow a similar path to Destiny 1's first year, which saw the release of small expansions The Dark Below and House of Wolves. Destiny 2 released Curse of Osiris in December and its second expansion will launch in May. Like Destiny 1, which launched The Taken King and Rise of Iron expansions in the following two falls of that game's lifespan, Destiny 2 looks to be taking that same road.

While fans were surely expecting such a plan, Activision confirmed it during its quarterly earnings call:

"There are also 2 epic adventures on the horizon with Expansion 2 in May and a major content launch later this year. There is magic in the franchise and we are committed to meet our own and our players expectations in the coming quarters."

This is sure to create excitement among fans with memories of fall 2014's The Taken King expansion, which set a vision and direction that carried through the rest of the game's active lifespan. The Taken King added new subclasses, the biggest raid the game had ever seen, and tons of content that hurled Destiny 1 back on track.

There's no doubt Bungie, Activision, and fans are hoping this major expansion coming to Destiny 2 will do the same, especially amidst the wide-ranging disappointment fans expressed months after Destiny 2's release. It also gives Bungie an opportunity to make larger changes to the game and package them as part of Year 2. Zero details are known about what this expansion might be, but it will definitely be a point of interest to keep an eye on as Destiny 2 moves forward in 2018.

Destiny 2 and the Curse of Osiris expansion are available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
