When the Season of Opulence launches on June 4, some of the most popular exotic weapons and armor in Destiny 2 will be nerfed. Presumably in an attempt to encourage Destiny 2 players to use different weapons in the new raid, the nerfs have nevertheless proven to be quite unpopular with the game's community, with many voicing their frustration online.

The upcoming Destiny 2 exotic nerfs largely impact the game's PvE content, as the nerfed weapons have been favorites to use in boss battles. Many detractors have complained that the exotic weapon nerfs coming with the Season of Opulence will simply make the game less fun, whereas others have expressed annoyance that the nerfs will make the exotic weapons they worked hard to get not as useful as they once were.

Bungie likely expected some backlash to the upcoming Destiny 2 exotic nerfs, but it's unclear if it expected the backlash to be this severe. Browsing the game's sub-Reddit and social media shows that many fans are dreading the exotic nerfs, and are mocking Bungie for the decision.

While none of the upcoming exotic nerfs in Destiny 2 seem to have been met positively by fans, one in particular seems to be the most upsetting. The Whisper of the Worm nerf has been specifically called out as especially disappointing, as this marks the third time the exotic sniper has been nerfed.

Again, it seems Bungie is trying to encourage players to use different weapons in Destiny 2 instead of relying on the most popular exotics, but the argument is often made that nerfing popular weapons isn't the right way to go about it. It seems a solution to this would be to improve the other guns in the game with buffs so that they are more desirable for fans, or add new weapons that can replace the other exotics.

It will be interesting to see if Bungie responds to the backlash for the Destiny 2 exotic nerfs, and if it changes any of its plans for the upcoming Season of Opulence update as a result.

Destiny 2 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
