This week, Destiny 2 players received an influx of new content thanks to the latest update from Bungie. The five classic raids can now be farmed endlessly, numerous patrol zones have evolved with new threats and an updated look, and the latest exotic quest has arrived to lead people to the very unique trace rifle known as Ruinous Effigy. Seemingly out of the blue, players also started another new quest line called Exodus: Preparation.

The pyramid threat has spread this week after originally appearing over Io at the start of the current season, these ships have now invaded the skyboxes of Titan, Mars, and Mercury. Commander Zavala sends players to each of the vendors stationed at these locations to provide assistance through weekly bounties. There's a bit of story sprinkled in, revealing what each of these characters are doing to counteract the threat of the looming Darkness.

While the quest itself doesn't take too long to complete, many players were surprised to discover the reward at the end. It may not be what Destiny 2 fans wanted, but there's a reason for it.

Exodus: Preparation Rewards

After helping Sloan and Asher Mir, players provide a status update with Commander Zavala who gives out a masterworked version of The Militia's Birthright. It's a special ammo, single shot grenade launcher, which should help players who haven't yet earned The Mountaintop.

Even with a reward in hand, Zavala isn't yet done and sends players to the final two stops to help Ana Bray on Mars and Brother Vance on Mercury. Finishing one of two weekly bounties will again allow the quest line to continue forward and with both destinations satisfied, players will need to head back to Zavala at the Tower. This time, only a triumph unlocks signifying that the player finished the Exodus: Preparation quest.

What's Next?

While the lack of a meaningful reward may be a bit surprising, this is actually a time gated quest so now everyone will need to wait for the next phase to launch. As it turns out, dataminers may have spoiled a bit of the surprise by discovering the second phase of the mission called Exodus: Evacuation, likely indicating that players will need to help these vendors get off of these locations before they're removed from the game and added to the Destiny Content Vault in September along with the Beyond Light expansion.

In the end, all of this work will be rewarded as it was also discovered that the third and final seasonal exotic is ultimately tied to these Exodus quests. Traveler's Chosen is an exotic primary sidearm. This weapon is already in the Destiny database so fans have a little bit more understanding about the weapon.

It's Intrinsic perk is called Gathering Light which grants stacks of Gathering Light upon final blows. Based on the number of stacks, players will get increased energy towards melee, grenade, and class abilities. This is pairs with the Legendary Trait Gift of the Traveler. For each stack of Gathering Light, the weapon's reload, handling, and target acquisition is improved.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
