Because Destiny 2 is a live service game that's been around for over four years now, it doesn't come as a surprise that it also sports a very large file size. Since the release of Beyond Light, Bungie started cycling content into the Destiny Content Vault, which includes destinations and activities from both Destiny and Destiny 2. With the upcoming release of The Witch Queen expansion, more locations, quests, vendors, and activities will be vaulted to make room for all the new things coming to the game.

When Bungie announced what would be moved to the Destiny Content Vault in Year 5, alongside the release of The Witch Queen, some players assumed it was simply going to be the Tangled Shore as a location and the Forsaken campaign. However, the developer recently released a detailed guide that states every thing that will be vaulted in Destiny 2, including elements that players didn't think would be gone, such as everything in the HELM. There are also items that will be deprecated as a result of the vaulting process, meaning that they will be automatically removed from players' inventories at the start of Year 5, making them worth being consumed before February.

Destiny 2 Year 5: Vaulted Locations, Activities, and Items

A Titan uses Hammer Strike on a Taken Captain during an Astral Alignment activity in Destiny 2.

As for the destinations to be vaulted, the Tangled Shore will be removed entirely from the game, including all of its Lost Sectors and activities, such as Baron Hunts, Public Events, the Broodhold Strike, and The Hollowed Lair Strike. The remaining Strike, called Warden of Nothing, will not be vaulted and will instead be moved to the Legends section of the in-game destinations, where Destiny 2 players can currently access the Vault of Glass Raid. While Season of the Chosen's Glykon is not directly found in the Tangled Shore, but rather orbiting above it, the ship and the Presage mission will be vaulted as well.

All other seasonal activities and locations are also being vaulted, which means that everything from Season of the Hunt, Season of the Chosen, Season of the Splicer, and Season of the Lost will be gone for good. This includes:

  • Wrathborn Hunts
  • Override Offensive missions
  • The Harbinger mission
  • Expunge missions
  • The Eliksni and Awoken wings in the HELM
  • Astral Alignment
  • Shattered Realm

It's worth noting that all of the exclusive gear found in these activities, like Hawkmoon and Dead Man's Tale will either be vaulted or become available through other means. Battlegrounds from Season of the Chosen will not be removed from the game, and instead, they will be added to the Strike playlist, which will go by the name of Vanguard Operations moving forward.

The entirety of the Forsaken campaign will be vaulted, which also means that other items will become unobtainable as a result, such as:

  • Mindbearer's Ambition legendary shotgun — A random drop from The Hollowed Lair Strike
  • Secret Treasure emblem — Available in a secret room within the Mindbearer's Lair, as part of the Forsaken campaign
  • Eye for an Eye emblem — Available after defeating all the Scorned Barons
  • Wing of the Crow emblem — Rare drop from completing Tangled Shore Bounties from Spider
  • Untangled emblem — Available as a random drop upon completing any Tangled Shore activity
  • Cayde-6's Sparrow, The Gambler's Palm — Rare drop from Spider Bounties, The Hollowed Lair, and bosses in the Forsaken campaign
  • The Great Beyond Legendary ship — Random drop upon killing any Baron during the Forsaken campaign
  • Lord of Wolves exotic shotgun — Obtained through Wanted Bounties from Spider

Other seasonal items that will be vaulted include:

  • Wings of Light emblem — Obtained when completing the Hunter Killer Triumph, which requires completing Harbinger in 15 minutes or less
  • The Next Chapter emblem — Obtained after completing the Presage mission flawlessly on Master difficulty
  • The Fourth Mark Exotic ship — Rare drop from the Coup de Grace mission from Wrathborn Hunts
  • Radiant Accipiter Exotic ship — Available from an Exotic quest given by Crow, called Bird of Prey
  • Shell of Gilgamesh Exotic Ghost Shell — Obtained with the All the Scattered Pieces Triumph, which requires collecting all clues on board the Glykon during Presage
  • Forbidden Memory Exotic ship — Obtained upon completing the Path of the Splicer quest
  • Eternal Recurrence Exotic Sparrow — Obtained upon completing the Wayfinder's Voyage quest
  • High Gravitas Exotic Ship — Obtained when reaching Rank 21 at the War Table
  • Zeroneiro Exotic Ghost Shell — Obtained upon completing the Unpredictable Triumph, which requires to finish Expunge: Delphi without dying
  • Reefborn Warbird Ship — Obtained upon completing the Devotee's Remnant Triumph, which requires acquiring and completing Ager's Scepter's Exotic catalyst

Destiny 2 Year 5: Vaulted Exotic Quests, Activity Rewards, Vendors, and Deprecated Items

Some Destiny 2 quests will also be vaulted, and their rewards might either be vaulted as well or become available from other sources. The list is as follows:

  • Wish-Ender quest, with the Wish-Ender Exotic bow
  • Holliday Family History quest, with the Chaperone Exotic shotgun (which will be available with quests from Shaw Han)
  • As the Crow Flies quest, with the Hawkmoon Exotic hand cannon
  • Bird of Prey quest
  • The Voice on the Other Side quest, with the Dead Man's Tale Exotic scout rifle
  • Path of the Splicer quest
  • Tracing the Stars quest, with the Ager's Scepter Exotic trace rifle
  • Wayfinder's Voyage

Because some locations and seasonal content are being vaulted with The Witch Queen, the result is that a few vendors will be unavailable moving forward. The list is as follows:

  • Spider, from the Tangled Shore (although currency exchange will be available from Master Rahool in The Tower)
  • Petra Venj, from the Tangled Shore
  • The Crow, from the Tangled Shore
  • Umbral Decoder, from the HELM
  • Prismatic Recaster, from the HELM
  • Splicer Servitor, from the HELM
  • Wayfinder's Compass, from the HELM
  • Mara Sove, from Mara Sov's Chambers

Some items will be removed from the game and from all players' inventories as soon as Destiny 2's Year 5 beings, and they include:

  • All Bounties, missions, and quests from the Tangled Shore, the Forsaken campaign, Season of the Hunt, Season of the Chosen, Season of the Splicer, and Season of the Lost
  • All Ritual and Pinnacle weapon quests and ornaments (which will be available for purchase in the Monument to Lost Lights, in The Tower)
  • Bell of Conquests
  • Cabal Gold
  • Cabal Runes
  • Challenger Medallions
  • Corrupted Data
  • Corrupted Key Code
  • Cryptolith Lure
  • Decrypted Data
  • Dreaming Token of Eriviks
  • Dreaming Token of Querim
  • Dreaming Token of Xavoth
  • Ether
  • Etheric Spiral
  • Ghost Fragments
  • Hammer of Proving
  • Imperial Access Code
  • Intercepted Distress Signal
  • Key Code
  • Lure Mutation Finder
  • Lure Mods (both Prey Mods and Trophy Mods)
  • Parallax Trajectory
  • Recon Data
  • Splicer Gauntlet
  • Strand of Nobility
  • The Unclaimed Lightbearer
  • Wanted Bounties and enemies, such as Barons (corresponding Triumphs will be moved to the Tangled Shore Triumph area, which will be part of the Legacy Archive)

Overall, a lot of things won't be in the game any longer, and players who care about Triumphs, collections, and unique items should try and get everything before The Witch Queen drops. This means that visiting the Tangled Shore or seasonal activities might be a good idea if Destiny 2 players discover they are missing something from this list, which they can check in the Collections and Triumphs tabs. It's unclear whether everything will still be accessible through the Monument to Lost Lights, and some things — like emblems and Legendary items — might go away forever.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
