Ever since their introduction, Masterwork Cores (now Enhancement Cores) have been a rare commodity in Destiny 2. In Year 1, players used Cores to give their weapons boosts to stats and the ability to generate orbs on double kills, but in Year 2 the Masterworking process is more varied but also more costly. Not to mention, Bungie added Enhancement Cores as an infusion cost for any weapon or armor piece of a different type. As a result, players can burn through Enhancement Cores rather quicker than they can replenish their supply.

Luckily, the Destiny 2 community has found a clever way to farm Enhancement Cores and generate a few extra materials in the process. All it takes is Legendary Shards and some time.

Visit Spider and Buy Simulation Seeds

The first step is to head to Spider in the Tangled Shore any time he has Simulation Seeds for sale in exchange for Legendary Shards. When Spider does, buy as many as possible – you could even clear out your Legendary Shard wallet if you want.

How To Maximize Power Level Gains in Destiny 2: Forsaken

Buy Engrams From Brother Vance and Dismantle

With hundreds (if not thousands) of Simulation Seeds in tow, head to Mercury and visit Brother Vance. Use those Simulation Seeds to boost your reputation with the Mercury vendor and collect engrams in the process. Each of these engrams should reward two legendary items and a Curse of Osiris shader.

It might not seem like anything special but if players dismantle those legendary items they should recoup most, if not all, of their legendary shards in the process. More importantly, Brother Vance seems to have the highest chance of rewarding Masterworked items in his engrams, which will also give 1 Enhancement Core upon dismantling.

To recap:

  1. Buy Simulation Seeds from Spider in exchange for Legendary Shards
  2. Use those Seeds to increase your reputation and get engrams from Brother Vance
  3. Dismantle the engram items to receive legendary shards, glimmer, materials, and occasionally enhancement cores

The process can be time consuming so those on PC are highly recommended to use a macro for purchasing Simulation Seeds in bulk and boosting Brother Vance’s reputation. The only important thing to keep an eye on is your Postmaster, so you don’t lose any of the items from the engrams.

On console, it’s all about clicking the same button over and over again, so fire up a Twitch stream or a movie and sit back. In the end, it should be worth the time and players should end up with dozens of enhancement cores and only a small net loss of legendary shards. For example, I spent about 2,000 shards at the start of the farm and finished with about 1,800.

Of course, there are other ways to acquire Enhancement Cores, like completing Scrapper Bounties, but this is by the far the best farm for the material. And for those who like to curate their gear and bring a lot of different items up to the max power level, those Cores can go by fast.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
