One of the aspects that makes Destiny 2 entertaining to watch as a viewer is how players craft powerful builds and then use them to perform incredible feats in both PVE and PVP, especially in the hardest content in the game.
Incredibly, one Destiny 2 player took to the new dungeon, Grasp of Avarice, to take on its first boss encounter except with a twist: this player kills the boss without a fireteam, on Master difficulty, and in a single damage cycle.
Destiny 2 content creator Esoterickk, known for completing some of the hardest challenges in the game, uploaded a video onto YouTube showcasing a solo-Master-one-phase kill on the first boss of the Grasp of Avarice dungeon. Esoterickk plays as a Titan wielding the middle-tree Sunbreaker subclass, which the perks grant him the throwing hammer. He also wields an energy shotgun with the One-Two Punch perk and the Tractor Cannon heavy shotgun. Combined with the Synthoceps exotic gantlets, Esoterickk makes his way through the encounter, killing enemies with his hammer, until he finally comes face-to-face with the boss Phry'zhia The Insatiable where he melts the boss by repeatedly driving his throwing hammer into it with shotgun shots in-between throws.
Destiny 2's throwing hammers have the ability to be picked up and thrown again and grant bonus damage for every kill with them. The One-Two Punch perk on Esoterickk's energy shotgun grants bonus melee damage upon landing all pellets onto a single enemy, which the game considers the throwing hammer as a melee attack, and then using Tractor Cannon also grants a multiplicative damage bonus of 30 percent. Synthoceps grant even more melee damage, and with everything combined, Esoterickk is able to kill the boss in only a matter of seconds.
As incredible as this feat is, some players may not feel excited over another one-phase boss kill. Destiny 2 players have solo-killed raid bosses before, and Esoterickk's video is another addition of players killing difficult bosses by themselves.
However, despite how frequently Destiny 2 players find creative ways to kill bosses, Esoterickk's feat required a good degree of skill, especially on Master difficulty. With enemies ready ruin a player's run with a few well-placed shots, a boss that can kill in a single slam, and a strategy that requires plenty of build up, watching Esoterickk destroy bosses is stunning to many players. However, given how strong Titan throwing hammers are, players shouldn't feel surprised if Bungie decides that they are too strong and nerfs them in a future patch.
