The Duality dungeon in Destiny 2 is available for those who purchased the dungeon pass, and the light level recommended is 1550. Players hoping to conquer Calus' mind and loot all the new armor and weapons should put on their best gear. Here are a few useful and general tips for helping guardians survive Destiny 2's Duality dungeon.

9 Explore Calus' Mind Thoroughly

Destiny 2 Duality Dungeon Secret

In true Bungie fashion, the devil is in the details. Although this dungeon isn't quite on the level of a raid, expect to find many hidden mechanics and secrets scattered around. Players can expect to discover logs spoken by Calus and eventually hidden chests as well.

Hence, make sure to explore every nook and cranny of Duality, rather than instantly rushing for the next encounter. The very first room alone can be quite confusing for players who are looking for a straightforward PVE experience.

8 Bells Are The Main Mechanic

Destiny 2 Duality Dungeon Bell

Speaking of mechanics, Duality's unique mechanic will involve these red glowing contraptions known as bells. These bells can be shot from afar, which will then transport players into a Nightmare. While inside this red dimension, players will notice a timer slowly ticking down. The goal is to exit the Nightmare by shooting another bell.

But beware: while inside the Nightmare, all players will need to stand inside the circle around the bell in order to safely return to the real dimension. However, when traveling from the real dimension into a Nightmare, players don't need to be close to a bell.

Bells can also be "locked" by certain enemies, making them immune and impossible to interact with. When this happens, players should look for orange-bar enemies that are typically named "Bellkeepers". Kill them, and a message appears on the left stating that a bell can be rung.

7 Symbols Are The Second Mechanic

Destiny 2 Duality Dungeon Sun Essence Symbol

Another mechanic in Duality is symbols known as Essences. Players will be frequently sent inside Nightmares, where they need to kill a specific orange-bar enemy, which will drop an essence related to a specific symbol (Chalice, War Beast, Sun, or Axe).

Bungie has made things super easy this time, as players will be able to tell which symbol or Essence they're carrying by checking the left side of their screen. Essences need to be dunked in the location where a white holograph with the matching symbol is located.

6 Watch Out For Bell Hitboxes

Bells being the important, defining mechanic of the dungeon, players need to be aware of a small kink that may ruin quite a few runs even for veteran Destiny players. These bells have quite large hitboxes, which means it's quite common for players to accidentally shoot them while inside a Nightmare and kill anyone who isn't standing in a circle around it.

Avoid using grenades and weapons with perks like Ricochet Rounds, Firefly, and Dragonfly to not mess up the bell hitboxes.

5 Clear Ads In-Between Entering Nightmares

Destiny 2 Duality Dungeon Colossus Cabal

Although players will need to keep the timer in mind while inside Nightmares, once back in reality during encounters there's usually no rush to complete the encounter. As such, the focus should be on clearing ads, as Duality sports a fairly high enemy density, with a bunch of nasty orange-bar Cabal enemies.

During Nightmare sections, players need to focus on any ads that threaten players who are carrying Essences related to a symbol. The reason for this is that dying while carrying an Essence means that players will have to re-enter the Nightmare, kill the enemy guarding that Essence, pick it up and make their way out again to dunk it in the correct spot. It's a lot of wasted time, so clearing ads and making things safe for whoever is fetching Essences is key for a smooth completion.

4 Healing Builds Are Key

Although healing in Solar 3.0 has been somewhat underwhelming, Duality is a great place to start really utilizing those new healing builds the new subclass has introduced. Any type of sustain will greatly help players on their journey.

It's also a good idea to invest in Resilience, which at tier 10 now provides players with a 40% damage reduction. Other major damage sources that should be countered are Psion snipers, Solar from the main boss, and in the form of grenades and fire, as well as arc slug shots from elite Cabal enemies.

3 Have Some Crowd Control Gear Ready

Killing ads won't be straightforward due to the high enemy density and the timed nature of Nightmare dimensions. That's why sometimes it's better to just run, and players can invest in some crowd control gear as well to make things easier.

Stasis Bleak Watcher is fantastic for perma-freezing and stunning enemies, and any fireteam member can also slap on a grenade launcher with Blinding Grenades for those sticky situations when the enemies get a bit too overwhelming to deal with.

2 Swords And Divinity Are Best For Damage (For Now)

beyond light exotic

It's very early in the season to really tell what will the king of DPS, and since many players have yet to fully level their artifact, boss DPS options are limited, to say the least. Hunters have some good news, as Blade Barrage is one of the strongest DPS ultimates in the game right now, so a Solar Hunter could be a good play.

Overall, however, teams will want to go for something a bit unique, such as swords. Many of the boss fights are up close and personal, making swords a viable option. Weapons like the Lament and Fallen Guillotine do a respectable amount of damage. Players can also try a build with Divinity, to increase damage output.

As the season progresses, new methods will be added.

1 Stun The Final Boss Early

Destiny 2 Duality Dungeon Caiatl In Nightmare

The final boss of Duality is none other than Caiatl's Nightmare form, and she takes quite a bit of damage for players to defeat. The damage phase is also a bit unique, with Caiatl teleporting inside the Nightmare dimension along with the guardians and attempting to approach one of the three bells in the room.

Players will need to kill the Bellkeepers on the side Caiatl is approaching and then quickly shoot the bell in order to stun Caiatl. After that, it's a short damage phase, until she regains her composure and heads to the next bell. This happens three times each phase, after which players are sent back to the main arena and they'll have to dunk the four Essences on the pillars again, shoot the glowing chains once all Essences have been gathered, and go to the damage phase.

Make sure to stun Caiatl early by shooting the bell. Players should try to burst down the Bellkeepers fast, and one fireteam member can even distract Caiatl by approaching her and forcing her to stop and perform a stomp. To goal is to prevent her from being too close to the bell or even escaping, as being next to the bell will risk the bell's hitbox soaking up some of the damage.

Pro-tip: to do proper damage to the boss in the Duality dungeon, players need to stand close or right next to the bell they use to stun Caiatl to gain a damage buff.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
