Because Destiny 2 developer Bungie likes to create an air of secrecy around its game, players have become obsessed with decoding every little clue. Sometimes they even find info and develop theories and Bungie sets the record straight, like with the Dreadnaught loading screen. But other times those clues hint at the future of the shared world shooter.

Even when Bungie doesn’t put clues in front of the player, plenty go digging for them, like one Destiny 2 fan did this week. This individual spent 4 hours digging through audio files in Destiny 2 to see if he could uncover any clues regarding future content or storylines. Be warned, there may be spoilers from here on out.

As expected, there are audio files regarding the Master Ives murder mystery that will conclude the Festival of the Lost event, but the more interesting discoveries involve the Dreaming City and its ongoing storyline. Some of the audio files seem to be alternate dialogue for interactions between the Techeun witches but there are two portions of dialogue that stand out.

One is a conversation between Mara Sov and the player’s Ghost where it is revealed that the curse on the Dreaming City is supposed to last for a minimum of 7 cycles. Each cycle includes three full weeks, starting with when the curse is at its weakest and ending when it is the strongest.

The other interesting dialogue references the player breaking the curse. Vendors apparently refer to our Guardian as the “Cursebreaker” as does Riven. It seems the link between players and the Last Wish raid boss grows as time goes on.

Assuming this dialogue is meant to occur that would put the conclusion of the curse in February. At present, Bungie doesn’t have any plans for Destiny 2 content in February with the Annual Pass but this could be something smaller. Whatever the case, it’s intriguing to consider that the curse will eventually come to an end and bigger things will be on the horizon.

Other details pulled from the audio files include a larger role for Factions in the future and lines for Crimson Days and The Dawning. Both events will be coming in the next six months, but Bungie is already getting prepared. That is, if these audio files are not just placeholders, which is entirely possible.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, Ps4, and Xbox One.
