Earlier this week, Bungie released its content roadmap for Destiny 2 that outlined major update releases from now until May. But what the developer didn’t explain at the time was how the second DLC expansion for Destiny 2 factors into the equation.

Luckily, live team director Christopher Barrett, who has been very active answering fans’ questions on Twitter, chimed in to set things straight. Most suspected it, but Barrett confirmed that the second DLC will launch in May 2018.

It seemed logical that DLC 2 for Destiny 2 would release in May given that Bungie revealed Season 3 will start then, but the studio did not confirm any expansion release date as part of its content roadmap. Some were further confused (and even a little worried) when they saw that the Eater of Worlds Prestige mode releases in May, and were left wondering if the DLC might have slipped further into late 2018.

Towards the end of Destiny 1's life cycle, April had been the release month for new content, not unlike this second DLC expansion. And so most assumed Bungie was sticking to tradition and planned to launch its second add-on in April.

However, some will remember that House of Wolves, the second DLC for Vanilla Destiny 1, actually released in mid-May, so there is a precedent for such a delayed release. However, what most didn’t know back then was that a major add-on was right around the corner in the form of The Taken King.

No doubt fans are going to be split with regards to the May release date for DLC 2. Some will be happy that Bungie is going to have time to ensure they pack it full of content and get the game into a better place through the planned updates, while others will likely be frustrated with such a long wait. Yes, there will be live events like Crimson Days but the expansions are typically what bring the largest number of players back.

At least now Destiny 2 players have some clarity regarding the release of DLC 2. We still know very little about the add-on, from its title to its content, but that isn’t stopping the rumors from pouring in on a regular basis.

Destiny 2 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
