Destiny 2's Season of Plunder came alongside a new legacy Raid from Destiny, which turned out to be King's Fall after Bungie's promise to bring back one of the major Raids from the first game, thus excluding Crota's End by default. With King's Fall, Bungie also held the typical World First race, which is a competition that allows all Destiny 2 players to participate in an event where the fastest team to complete the new Raid in Contest Mode is elected winner. The World First race is usually a tense competition, and the last three times that it was issued it was won back-to-back by Clan Elysium, with popular Destiny 2 streamer Saltagreppo at the top of his game.

Recently, Saltagreppo brought to Twitter his thoughts regarding the World First race, and more specifically about what it takes to win in terms of gear and abilities. In a tweet, Saltagreppo explains why he thinks Destiny 2 needs to nerf Divinity, an Exotic trace rifle that was introduced with the Shadowkeep expansion and one that has been a staple of any Raid fireteam ever since. This is mainly due to the gun debuffing targets for a whopping 30 percent increased damage taken, while also creating a big crit bubble on them that allows players not to aim directly at the target's crit spots. The tweet stirred a huge controversy within the Destiny 2 community, and there are various reasons why this is happening.

Why Destiny 2's Divinity Exotic is Stirring a Controversy on Twitter

The main reason why Divinity is in the eye of the storm, and subsequently Saltagreppo too because of his tweet, is that it's single-handedly responsible for many teams successfully completing Raid boss encounters. This is not to say that Divinity is the only necessary ingredient for this recipe, but it does make everything else pop. Debuffing bosses for 30 percent more damage taken is quite impressive in and of itself, especially considering that Destiny 2's other debuffs don't achieve the same result.

However, Saltagreppo's main reasoning for the Divinity nerf seems to be the crit bubble that, according to the streamer, doesn't require any aiming skills, thus making the Destiny 2's meta and environment unhealthy. According to Saltagreppo, this removes the skill gap between players when it comes to aiming and netting one's team the highest DPS and total damage possible. While this is true, there are other side effects to nerfing Divinity's crit bubble, and that's something that calling publicly for nerfs should take into account, especially when the one who does it has an influential voice.

In fact, Divinity is one of the very few support weapons in Destiny 2, and it helps immensely many disabled players or other Guardians with various sorts of accessibility issues. Having that big crit bubble is extremely helpful for those who struggle with moving or using too much their hands while playing, which can cause pain in some cases, or entirely gatekeep one from playing in others. As such, the aim argument should be catered to the entire community, even if changes are made to how Divinity works for the improvement of the game as a whole.

The discussion is also mainly centered around the fact that the current Destiny 2 meta is boring, according to Saltagreppo, as some weapons are of little use due to Divinity's existence. Nerfing Divinity to a point where other options become better than this Exotic means that players will find the next best thing to use and replace Divinity, rather than creating more variety. Thus, many fans are suggesting that Bungie should create more alternatives for the Exotic rather than nerfing it entirely, especially if the reason for it is that the game is boring to some individuals.

Destiny 2 is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
